CrossFit Champion Mat Fraser Just Shared His ‘Hardest Workout Ever’ on Instagram

From Men's Health

Mat Fraser is one of the most dominant athletes in sports—and that's something that came about by accident. While Fraser is now in recovery mode fresh off his fifth consecutive victory at the annual CrossFit Games, the elite athlete and "Fittest Man on Earth" is still thinking about hitting the WODs hard—including one routine which is among the toughest in his wheelhouse.

Fraser just shared a look at an especially grueling WOD on his Instagram page, calling it one of the "hardest" he has ever attempted: an every minute on the minute (EMOM) circuit switching back and forth between doing 24 calories in a minute on the assault bike, and 18 GHD situps. The challenge here is to survive that incredibly intense minute getting to 20-plus calories on the bike, and then find a way to "recover" during the other minutes doing the situps.

"To date, this is one of the hardest workouts I’ve ever done," Fraser wrote in the caption. "I did the workout early in the season, so I’m sure that contributed to why it was such a tough test. The goal on the assault bike is to use a majority of the minute and hold steady wattage across all the rounds (I think I was around 650-700 watts). The goal on the GHD is to just stay consistent and practice catching your breath while still working on the movement."

He signed off the post with his signature hashtag: #HWPO, or "hard work pays off." It's the personal mantra behind Fraser's consistently epic performance, and one he hopes to share with others.

"I'm trying to inspire people to have a better work ethic, or chase whatever they want to chase," he told Men's Health earlier this year.
