Add lemonade stands to the long list of time-honored traditions that the coronavirus is disrupting this summer. It’s obviously lower on the priority list, but it still sucks that America’s young beverage entrepreneurs don’t have much of a chance of turning a profit during the summer of COVID-19.
That’s why Country Time Lmonade is launching The Littlest Bailout, a combination “economic relief program”-marketing stunt that will provide $100 prepaid cards to kids who won’t get to run their lemonade stands this summer.
According to the website for the initiative, the payments are meant “to help kids preserve the values of lemonade stands, honest work, and entrepreneurship, while putting a little juice back into the economy.”
The program is reminiscent of the brand’s previous “Legal Ade” program that helped kids who were fined for setting up (unlicensed) lemonade stands pay their fees.
Kids can’t apply directly, but any parent or guardian over the age of 18 (19 in Alabama and Nebraska) can fill out the short form on behalf of their kid as long as he or she is 14 years old or younger and, obviously, operating a lemonade stand. Applying doesn’t guarantee that your kid will get a payment, but it does guarantee that the “Kraft Heinz Food Company and its portfolio of brands may send [you] information and offers.” Don’t say we didn’t warn you.
And much like the government-run coronavirus stimulus program for businesses, there don’t seem to be many restrictions on what kids who do receive the prepaid cards can use them for. So even though the summer of 2020 won’t be quite as profitable as your kid might have hoped, if they manage to snag one of these bailouts they won’t have to go into the school year empty-handed.
