Just when you thought your brain was still recouping from alllll the chaos that is Joe Exotic and his mullet and murder-for-hire schemes, Netflix goes ahead and drops an announcement that there will in fact be a season 2 of Tiger King. The streaming giant revealed the news late September in a slate reveal for upcoming true-crime documentaries.

Tiger King was ENORMOUS when it released on March 20, 2020—partly because it gave viewers a much-needed distraction and unifying factor during the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic and shutdown. Four days later, Tiger King became the number one most watched show on Netflix in the U.S. So needless to say, it makes total sense for the creators to capitalize on the moment and give the fans what they want: another season.

And get this: The release date is waaay sooner than you think—Tiger King 2 will be available on Netflix on November 17. Wild, right? Before the utter mayhem begins, here’s everything we know about the new season so far.

Is there a trailer yet?

Boy, oh boy, oh boy, you bet it is. And it's a doozy. The tweet from Netflix summed it up perfectly, "We thought we'd seen it all — but we'd only scratched the surface."

What will Tiger King 2 be about?

You’ll definitely have to tune in to see, but the description of the date announcement video promised “more madness and mayhem.” In an interview with Entertainment Weekly after Tiger King was first released last year, the Tiger King showrunners revealed they have enough archival footage to go deeper on the storylines. With the titular Tiger King, Joe Exotic, still behind bars, Tiger King might seem to have a resolution. But other roadside zoo operators like Doc “Bhagavan” Antle and Mario Tabraue are still out there, as well as Big Cat Rescue cofounder (and Joe Exotic enemy) Carole Baskin.

“I mean, yes, we have a crazy amount of footage and it’s a story that’s still unfolding," showrunner Rebecca Chaiklin told EW. “There could be a follow-up on this story because there’s a lot that’s still unfolding in it, and it’ll be just as dramatic and just as colorful as what has unfolded these past few years.”

Will Joe Exotic be in Tiger King 2?

Based on the trailer, Joe does seem to make a few appearances, that is, via collect phone calls from prison where he is currently serving a 22-year sentence. Footage from the date announcement video showed Joe still hell-bent on “the truth” getting out, whatever “the truth” is.

What is going on with Joe Exotic now?

While it's not clear how much Joe will be featured in the second season of the docuseries, he has continued to update fans about his legal battle and life from prison. On November 3, his official Instagram was updated with a handwritten note from Joe in which he revealed that he's been diagnosed with "an aggressive cancer."

@joe_exotic Update 😞⬇️, " the post's caption read. "Everyone, It is with a sad face that I have to tell you the doctors called me in today to break the news that my prostate biopsy came back with an aggressive cancer, I am still waiting on the results from other test as well. Right now I don’t want anyone’s pity and I’m sure Carole Will have her own party over this! What I need is the world to be my voice to be released, they have the proof I DID NOT DO THIS! And there is no reason for the district attorney to drag this out, So I can go home and get treatment on my own or enjoy what life I have left with my loved ones! Say a prayer everyone & be my voice 😢 love #joeexotic."

In a statement to Entertainment Tonight, Joe's attorney, John M. Phillips, confirmed that Joe has been diagnosed with prostate cancer and briefly touched on aspects of his ongoing legal battle that will be included in Tiger King 2.

"Joe is one of the most passionate, full of life, clients I have ever had the pleasure of representing," Phillips said in the statement. We’ve worked tirelessly over the past several months to uncover evidence, some of which will be revealed in Tiger King 2, airing on Nov. 17. Other information supporting his freedom will be revealed only in his court case.

"Joe informed me that his fears were true. He had been diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer. As noted in Joe’s recent statements, he has been undergoing medical treatment and tests for a host of issues. The PSA test is a blood test used primarily to screen for prostate cancer. It was high months ago. He finally obtained biopsies. They revealed cancer. Medical care is different in a prison environment and fewer options are available.

"The 10th Circuit Court of Appeals has vacated his sentence and information has revealed significant evidence of fraud and misconduct at his trial. However, prison medical care isn’t the best and justice is slow. It’s a competition of life and liberty no one wants any part of.

"It is often said, 'all we have is our health.' The last few years has taken everything from Joe -- his property, his freedom, his husband literally sold his clothes, his parents have passed away and now he faces cancer. Please keep Joe in your thoughts and prayers."

What about Carole Baskin? Will she be in season 2?

Carole Baskin has been extremely vocal about her dislike for the show, calling it “salacious” and detailing how it’s negatively impacted her. She told RadioTimes.com that she would indeed not be returning for the second season.

“It was just a few weeks ago that Rebecca Chaiklin had reached out asking if we could clear the air,” said Carole to the outlet. “I have been speaking about how we had been so misled into thinking this was going to be the Blackfish for big cats and then it turned out to be the freak show that they produced. So when she said she wanted to clear the air, I felt like, you know, that’s just absolutely ridiculous. It was so obvious that I had been betrayed by them. Why would she ever think that I would be willing to speak to them again. And so I told her to just lose my number.”

There was a shot of her in the trailer, so the producers might be using some archival footage of her in the new season, but that's unclear right now. What was evident though, is that this season is definitely diving deeper into what happened to Carole's missing husband Don Lewis. Oof!

When all that leftover footage comes to light, we have no doubt it’ll be just as colorful (and insane) as season 1. Start mentally preparing now, friends!
