You Could Go Camping in These Teardrop-Shaped Tree Tents

From lofty treehouses with modern amenities to off-grid truck campers with lots of space, there are plenty of ways to enjoy the great outdoors without actually having to sleep on the ground. Looking for a really unique camping experience? Try hanging from the trees in a tear-drop-shaped pod.

Originally built as an art installation in a forest near the Belgian town of Borgloon, the hanging pods now double as camping tents, Reuters reports. While the tents are a popular tourist destination every summer, according to the town's head of tourism, they're in especially high demand this year because of "the government’s guidelines to travel in your own country" amid the global coronavirus pandemic.

Each teardrop-shaped tent, which sleeps up to two adults, holds a bed, bench, storage, and a ladder, according to Insider. The tents cost €70 (or about $83) to rent per night. Guests also have the option to order breakfast for about $18 per person. Bookings are available through the end of September.

Though the tents are available to rent, you won't be able to purchase them for your own camping trips. "My tents are too expensive to produce [commercially],” Dre Wapenaar, the Dutch artist who designed them, told Reuters.
