You Could Buy the Car Elvis and Priscilla Drove After Their Wedding

Elvis fans who don’t mind a bit of a fix-up could nab one of the king’s long-forgotten but treasured cars.

It’s well documented that Elvis Presley loved cars — so much so that nobody really knows how many he owned. There’s even one story that he went into a Cadillac dealership one day, bought 32 of their cars and gave them all away by the end of the afternoon.

Given that there are so many Elvis cars out on the market, it’s rare to find one with particular sentimental value. But a rare treasure has emerged from a private collection and could be the ultimate acquisition for an Elvis fan who doesn’t mind restoration work.

A 1967 Lincoln Continental Lehmann-Peterson Limousine is going up for auction next week. According to the auction house, it was a wedding gift for Elvis and Priscilla from the singer’s manager, Colonel Tom Parker.

The car boasted a high level of luxury for the 1960s, including air conditioning, power steering, power breaks, a power antenna and an in-dash clock.

After their marriage in 1967, the limousine was often referred to as the “Elvis Presley Family Car” because Elvis, Priscilla and their daughter Lisa Marie, would ride in it ”around town, on trips and to countless engagements,” through the early 1970s, according to the auction listings.

The car includes the original title application, which registered the vehicle to a certain “E.A. Presley.” There’s also a Tennessee license plate with the letters: “1-ELVIS” attached.

Unfortunately, since Presley’s death in 1977, the car has fallen from a state of grace. It’s covered in a layer of dust and rust and will need repairs to be restored to its former glory.

The auction starts August 15 in Monterey, California.

A few years ago, Elvis’s custom private jet went to auction, fetching a price of $430,000.
