Giving your home a whole new look can be as easy as slapping a new coat of paint on your walls, rearranging some decorations or simply refurbishing your furniture. If you’re thinking of redecorating, why not start with one of the most common areas in your home — the living room? There’s no easier way to change the entire look of your living room than by changing up your furniture, but there’s no need to go out and buy a cool, trendy couch you can’t afford (besides your eyesore of a couch is really comfy). It’s actually pretty easy to refurbish your old couch with a few simple steps.
If you’ve ever watched a DIY video and thought to yourself “That’s so cool, I think I can do that,” we have the perfect endeavor for you. You’ll love changing things up with a simple project that will transform your living room by turning your old, raggedy couch into a trendy, fashion-forward seat. All you need is a little time, a few inexpensive items and a little help from this TikTok by @tailorhim to take your living room from drab to chic.
Need fabric? Let’s use a blanket
First, it's super important that you measure your couch so you know just how big of a blanket you’re going to need. For a big couch, you might want to find a queen or king-sized blanket, whereas you could probably use a full size for a smaller couch (this project can also be done to refurbish your favorite chair, in which case a twin-size may be all you need). Once you have everything measured, it's time to cut your blanket to fit the shape of your couch. We recommend using a fuzzy faux fur throw to give your couch an extra layer of lush comfort and a trendy vibe.
Keep everything secure
Now that you have your blanket cut up, drape it over your couch and start securing the blanket to the bottom of the couch using a staple gun. Dewalt makes an awesome lightweight staple gun that would work great for this type of project.
It’s all in the details
Once you’re sure the blanket is in place, start sewing the corners together. It's important that you have everything you need all together so a sewing kit may be a good idea to have for this part since they usually include a variety of threads, some scissors and needle threaders (or life savers, as we like to call them). Take your time with this part so everything looks great and your couch doesn’t end up falling at the seams. As you sew parts together, you may have to go back and restaple some parts.
Why buy a new couch when you can dress up your old one?
