Costco Is Selling an $800 Christmas Tree—Would You Buy It?

Ah Costco, what would we do without you? Designers love to shop these superstores for low-cost, high-style items and renovation staples alike. And so do everyday shoppers! Which makes sense, because, while the wholesale retailer famously sells bulk-sized quantities of your favorite daily essentials for fair, affordable prices, it also carries a bunch of bizarre-yet-genius furniture and home décor. A rustic fire pit that looks like it belongs on the set of Yellowstone? Check. A Thanksgiving centerpiece made entirely out of LEGOS? Of course. The best artificial Christmas trees money can buy? Well, the jury's still out on that.

Just like most retailers around the most wonderful time of the year, Costco does sell artificial Christmas trees—many of which are available pre-lit and in multiple heights, others which are plain and ready to be decorated in whatever style you choose. Laura Lamb of Instagram's Costco Hot Finds was thrilled when she found a bunch of pre-lit beauties at her nearest location. "If you weren't planning on a Costco run today, you may want to," Lamb captioned. "These trees were selling like hot cakes!! The 12-foot only had the display left so they had it marked down to 800."

But, in a shocking turn of events for followers of the Costco fan account, these trees were met with mixed reviews. While many followers praised Costco's offerings—one said they were "absolutely gorgeous trees" that "last forever"—others were left gobsmacked by the steep price tag.

"[Eight hundred dollars]that’s insane," one person commented. Another snarked, "If you're a millionaire, sure." Meanwhile, others were skeptical to the point of being Grinch-like about the quality. "We need a new tree, but these are 100% plastic and look so fake," someone wrote.

And still other holiday decor fans pointed out that while the superstore is great, it's not the only place to buy an artificial Christmas tree. "I don’t get the Costco fake tree hype," one Instagrammer confessed. "They look so fake! Love my Home Depot one."
