Beauty blogging can be a full-time job. But what happens if you love your career too much to give it up? Pennsylvania police officer Leslie Ann started her YouTube channel “The Beauty Cop” to combine her two loves: makeup and law enforcement. Since joining the site in 2014, she’s released dozens of makeup tutorials and product reviews.
Leslie Ann also makes a point to post photos of herself in full “Instagram makeup” while in her work uniform. “I want girls, especially my daughters, to not feel like they have to choose to be a certain type of girl. It shouldn’t matter what career they want to pursue,” she told The Daily Mail. This should go without saying in 2017, but yes, pretty girls can be cops, robbers, and anything else they want to be. “My goal is to be a role model and motivate other girls to just be themselves,” said Leslie Ann.
Her site is inspiring not just for her seemingly incongruous career choice, but for the fact that Leslie Ann has a career aside from working towards site sponsorships and ad buys. In a world where “Instagram celebrity” is rapidly becoming a profession, it’s refreshing to see someone who blogs simply for the love of beauty. Ahead, a few more bloggers with day jobs:
The Teacher Diva (@theteacherdiva)
Ashley Robertson is a lifestyle and beauty blogger, who, as she explains, has “a heart for educating young minds and a love for fashion.” She spent six years teaching kindergarten and first grade and still volunteers at an elementary school — and she also can seriously pack a travel makeup bag.
Sheryll Renata (thewanderlustproject.com)
Renata actually did the thing that we all talk about after a long day: She picked up and moved across the world. In a project that she calls “glamtrotting,” she documents her adventures living and working as an English teacher in Korea (while taking fabulous vacations) and testing new beauty products.
Cristine Rotenberg (youtube.com/simplynailogical)
One of the most popular beauty YouTubers out there is nail artist Cristine of Simply Nailogical. While fans know her as the energetic holosexual who never strays from a challenge, she also has a Masters degree in Sociology and Criminology and works as a crime statistics analyst for the Canadian government. One followup question: Does she know Justin Trudeau?
Netty Del (thefashionableesq.com)
If you need formal clothes for work, The Fashionable Esq. has you covered. Netty (not her real name, she’s a lawyer!) shares everything from favorite beauty products to off-duty looks.
Somehow, Christine manages to make room in her schedule as a Pediatric Critical Care doctor and mother of a toddler to review beauty products. She tries popular drugstore products and their luxe counterparts.
