PETOSKEY — The intersection of Division and East Lake streets will be closed for about three weeks as Petoskey begins its 2022 construction season.

The East Lake Street construction project is tentatively set to begin next week, depending on weather conditions, though some staging is beginning this week. The project involves the installation of new water, sanitary and storm sewer utilities on Lake Street from Division Street to Kalamazoo Avenue. Side streets between East Mitchell and East Lake Street, including Ottawa, Summit, Clinton and Williams streets, will also be receiving upgrades.

According to a city announcement, barricades will be placed at adjacent streets warning drivers not to drive through the intersection while work is ongoing. Parking areas and businesses near the intersection will be accessible.

The intersection will briefly reopen later this season when the first phase of the project is complete. At that point, the road will be graveled, not paved.

In early May, the intersection will close again to begin the task of laying concrete curbing, asphalt pavement and pavement markings. The expected completion date for the project is late October to early November.
