2021 has been a big year for Sacha Baron Cohen, 49, as he won the Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy Golden Globe award for his performance in Borat Subsequent Moviefilm. Throughout his unorthodox comedic career, his wife, Isla Fisher, 45, has been there every step of the way.

Fisher is known for her role in Wedding Crashers and Now You See Me. Cohen and Fisher have been together for nearly two decades, making them one of Hollywood's longest-lasting couples.

Fisher and Cohen are incredibly private and are seen out sporadically. They share three children together; two daughters, Olive, 13, and Elula, 10, and one son, Montgomery, 5.

The pair and their three children recently settled into their new life as they moved to Australia in 2020. Here's everything we know about the ultra-private couple, from the early days of their relationship to Cohen's big 2021 Golden Globes speech praising his wife.

2002

In 2002, the pair met at a party in Sydney, Australia. In 2020, Cohen talked to New York Times about the first time the two met and said, “She was hilarious.”

“We were at a very pretentious party, and me and her bonded, overtaking the mick out of the other people in the party,” he continued. “I knew instantly. I don’t know if she did. It’s taken her about 20 years to know.”

2004

In 2004, the couple got engaged, per NY Daily News.

July 2007

In July, Fisher attended the Los Angeles premiere of Hot Rod. The star was noticeably pregnant as she posed on the red carpet, wearing a pink dress. The appearance served as her announcement that she and Cohen were expecting their first child together.

At the press event for Hot Rod, the actress spoke about her pregnancy and whether she'd return to work right away. “I haven't got any plans to jump back into [work after the birth],” she said, according to People. “I’m so happy, very happy, and very excited [about becoming a mother].”

On March 15 after a six-year engagement, the couple officially tied the knot at the Hotel Ritz in Paris. Woman's Day reported, via People, that the couple had an intimate Jewish wedding, which only included a six people guest list.

The outlet detailed an email sent by Fisher to her friends and family. “We did it—we're married! It was the absolute best day of my life, and in so many beautiful moments, I missed you all so much. I thought of you as everything was happening, but Sacha and I wanted no fuss—just us!”

In a 2009 interview, the actress spoke about her dream wedding (via People). “It's very important to me to have a beautiful ritual celebrated with my family and friends,” she said. “And when you are in the public eye, to keep that private and to make it happen without it being really visible is really difficult.”

October 2011

The Sydney Morning Herald reported that the private couple welcomed their second child in October. Fisher gave birth to a baby girl named Elula. The couple never commented on the pregnancy or birth of their new baby.

March 2013

In an interview with C Magazine, via Daily Mail, Fisher spoke about her marriage with Cohen. She said, “[It's] definitely not a normal relationship."

“You know, there have been times in the past with the guerrilla-style film making of Borat and Brüno where there were surreal conversations: ‘How many people are suing us? Are you wanted in any states? Are you alive?’” Fisher cracked.

October 2014

Us Weekly reported that Fisher was expecting her third child with Cohen.

The report came after Fisher pulled out of a role for the Now You See Me sequel. A source told the outlet, “Production starts in November, and she knew she wouldn’t be able to do it. She’s about three months along.”

December 2020

Fisher appeared on The Tonight Show, promoting her newest Disney+ comedy, Godmothered.

Host Jimmy Fallon asked Fisher about how she handles Cohen's dangerous acting stunts. “Luckily, he doesn’t really tell me when he’s going to do super dangerous stuff until he’s done it,” she said. “It’s not a normal question of ‘Did you pick up the dry cleaning?’ or ‘What did you shoot today?’ It’s like he’ll say, ‘Yeah, we went to a gun rally,’ or ‘I was almost arrested.’ I don’t really have to worry about it, but I do like to be involved. I watch all the cuts of the movie.”

Later in the month, Fisher spoke to People about how Cohen helped with her comedy career. She mentioned she was auditioning for dramatic roles and kept getting rejected. “Sacha was the reason I got into comedy. I was going up for a lot of dramatic roles and getting rejected,” she told the outlet. “He said, ‘You’re one of the funniest people I know. You should be doing comedy.’”

She told People she was grateful to have had a such a long relationship with Cohen. “We will be celebrating 19 years together this year,” she said. “I feel very fortunate.”

For Fisher's 45th birthday, Cohen posted a funny throwback photo of his wife. “I was just scrolling through Instagram and found out that it's my wife's birthday. Need a good excuse for not having a present...quick!!! (Happy Birthday my darling),” he jokingly captioned the post.

Paparazzi captured the couple on a rare public outing at the end of February. The two enjoyed a day at the Sydney beach with their kids, as seen on Daily Mail. Their children weren't photographed, but Fisher and Cohen appeared placing down towels and holding bags and water bottles. The beach day marked the first time the couple had been photographed since moving to Australia.

On February 28, Cohen won a Golden Globe award for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy Golden Globe Awards for his performance in Borat 2. As he accepted his award, he expressed his appreciation for his wife. “Thank you to my incredibly patient wife Isla, who has put up with all my madness,” he said.

Later, Cohen spoke to reporters about receiving his Golden Globe Award. “It’s impossible to make a movie like this without having an incredibly supporting spouse,” he said. “I went and made two movies in the last 12 months: [The Trial of the] Chicago Seven and Borat 2. And these aren’t normal shoot days; you’re calling up sometimes at the end of the day and just saying, ‘I was lucky to make it out in one piece today,’ so you need a very, very understanding wife. And I’m very lucky to have it.”

Fisher added, “I’m the happiest when I’m home. I miss it when I’m not here. I don’t feel any pressure when I’m in Australia. I don’t have to say or do or be anything. I mean, I don’t even have to wear shoes.”

Fisher posted a series of photos congratulating her husband on his Oscar nominations for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in The Trail of Chicago Seven and Best Adapted Screenplay for Borat Subsequent Moviefilm. “Congrats to Hubs (pictured next to Abbie Hoffman) for TWO Oscar nominations today, one for Best Supporting Actor in Chicago 7 and another for Best Adapted Screenplay for BORAT. Also so thrilled for Maria Bakalova and her nomination! It’s so exciting to see the Academy appreciating how difficult comedy is,” Fisher captioned the photo.
