Leave it to Leonardo DiCaprio to keep a very serious relationship under wraps for more than two years. While many outlets speculated that he and model/actress Camila Morrone had been dating all the way back to 2017, the two didn't make things officially official until the 2020 Academy Awards. Here's everything that happened before their big debut (thanks, Janell Monae!), from DiCaprio's stints as an Instagram boyfriend to their multiple PDA-filled appearances at Coachella.

Remember Barney's? Rest in peace, iconic celebrity favorite shopping spot. You'll always be remembered for your warehouse sale and have the honor of being the first spot DiCaprio and Morrone were seen together.  Us Weekly reported that the two were "hooking up," but another source told the magazine that the two were just family friends. DiCaprio is close friends with Morrone's stepfather, Al Pacino.

The Daily Mail reported that DiCaprio was photographed leaving Morrone's L.A. home after the Barney's sighting.

E! News reports that the two attended Coachella together — and didn't hold back on the PDA.

August 2018

Post-Coachella, the two vacation together in Europe. A source told E! News that Leo loves her personality and that his friends approve.

"Things with Leo and Cami are going very well. Leo really likes Cami and they spend a lot of time together," the source said. "She's got a great, spunky personality that Leo is drawn to and she's obviously gorgeous. All Leo's friends like Cami too. She's just a low key, cool girl."

However, another source told E! that things aren't that serious, even though Morrone's mother went on the trip with them.

"Leo's living the good life and thoroughly enjoying himself. He's never too serious about anyone," a second source noted. "He's happy and leaves it at that. He doesn't future hop or get too far ahead of himself. They are having a great summer together and it is what it is."

"Leo and Camila have been out in the sun enjoying boat rides, snorkeling, and being in the sea. They've had several meals aboard the yacht but have also made plenty of stops and gotten off to see the sites and enjoy the best places," another source told E! News. "They visited the island of Capri and had a nice lunch at Il Riccio overlooking the water. They have a smaller boat that drops them and brings them back to the yacht."

November 2019

It took an entire year, but it looked like things were finally getting serious.

"They've been inseparable for the last year and are crazy about one another," a friend told E! News. "They've gotten to know each other's families, and they love being together."

Naturally, wedding rumors start to swirl because, well, it's Leonardo DiCaprio. The same friend shut that down.

"Marriage is definitely not a discussion yet," they said. "He is very serious with Cami and has been for a while now, but marriage is not something that is on the horizon."

Us reported that the two had talked about getting engaged, however.

"They're very serious and in love," a source said. "They've talked about getting engaged." Reportedly, "he's never loved a girl like this."

The two get cozy at a soccer game: they're spotted in the stands at the UEFA Champions League Group C match between Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and Liverpool FC in Paris.

"They seem pretty serious," a source told People. "It's definitely not a casual relationship. Camila spends a lot of time at his house."

Morrone defends the relationship on Instagram, telling any critics of the couple's 23-year age gap to "live with a little less hatred."

"There's so many relationships in Hollywood — and in the history of the world — where people have large age gaps," she told the Los Angeles Times. "I just think anyone should be able to date who they want to date."

She posts a series of photos of Lauren Bacall and Humphrey Bogart on Instagram, who had a 25-year age gap. She captioned the image, "A love like this."

November 2019

Morrone addressed that IG Live, telling Vulture that it wasn't planned and that she wouldn't bring it up again.

"I didn't even think about it beforehand. I probably should have. [Laughs.] I'm kind of impulsive in that way. I just woke up one morning and happened to look through my comments, which I never do because I never feel good after I do. I was just thinking about it and I said what I was thinking: 'There's so much hate on the internet and it's so unnecessary,'" she said. "I've learned more and more to just protect myself and avoid things that’ll hurt my feelings."
