Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth had their moments of being totally adorable and jealousy-inducing when they were dating, but it wasn't all fun and games throughout their drama-filled time together. Case in point? The couple got engaged, and then un-engaged, and engaged again, and then married, and then divorced. The house they bought together burned down in the Woolsey Fire. And Miley, who has written several love songs about Liam, released a scorching post-divorce breakup track on his birthday. Yeah, that's a rollercoaster if we've ever seen one.

Said scorching-post-divorce-breakup-track is also causing rumors that Liam Hemsworth cheated on Miley with Jennifer Lawrence during his Hunger Games days to resurface. Fans are starting to call out the potential Easter eggs from Miley's "Flowers" music video — is Miley's gold dress meant to look like J.Law's Hunger Games premiere dress? And what's up with the (unconfirmed) rumor that the music video house is where Liam cheated on Miley with 14 different women?

If you're wondering what exactly went down between the two stars during their fiery, on-again-off-again relationship, here is a complete timeline of the drama between Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth.

August 2010: Miley and Liam split for the first time

The first of many breakups happened in 2010, and it was reportedly due to Liam being a "distraction" to Miley's work. Oof. A source dished to E! about the split, claiming that "Liam wanted more, but she's 17 and has other priorities right now. He's been a distraction."

The couple was seen running errands together a month later, but then broke up again in November 2010.

September 2013: Miley and Liam call off their engagement

Miley and Liam were engaged for a little over a year before calling it off. Fans predicted that the wedding was a no-go a few days before reps officially confirmed the break-up when they noticed that Miley had unfollowed Liam on Twitter.

Oh, and a day (yes, just one singular day) after splitting from Miley, Liam was seen making out with Mexican actress Eiza Gonzalez in Los Angeles and spending the day running errands with her.

December 2014: Chris Hemsworth makes a comment about Miley

While the Thor actor didn't name any names, it seemed like he called out Miley in a cover story for GQ when he explained that he's protective over his younger brother for "being in relationships he shouldn't be in." Chris explained to the GQ, “I’ve watched Liam do things I did at his age [like] being reckless just to prove a point. And I had no empathy. My mom had to remind me I was the same way.”

2014 — 2019: Miley sees other people

Miley's dating history post-Liam is pretty star-studded. After the engagement was called off, she dated the following people: Patrick Schwarzenegger (November 2014 to April 2015), Stella Maxwell (2015), Kaitlynn Carter (August to September 2019), and Cody Simpson (October 2019 to August 2020).

August 21, 2019: Miley and Liam get a divorce

TMZ reported that Liam filed for divorce from Miley on 8/21/19, citing "irreconcilable differences" as his reason for seeking a legal split. The actor confirmed this statement with a message on his Instagram that read, “Just a quick note to say that Miley and I have recently separated and I wish her nothing but health and happiness going forward. This is a private matter and I have not made, nor will I be making, any comments to any journalists or media outlets. Any reported quotes attributed to me are false. Peace and Love.”

August 22, 2019: Miley spills tea on Twitter

Sources from Liam's side claimed that the divorce was a result of Miley's infidelity, but Miley took to Twitter to share her side of the story with a long thread about the divorce.

The singer admitted to her past mistakes, including cheating, but declared that her marriage did not end because of any issues with fidelity. "I can admit to a lot of things but I refuse to admit that my marriage ended because of cheating," wrote Miley. "You can say I am a twerking, pot smoking, foul mouthed hillbilly but I am not a liar. [...] I am proud to say, I am simply in a different place from where i was when I was a younger."

September 2019: Miley releases her song "Don't Call Me Angel" and fans speculate it's about Liam

Fans realized that Miley's song from the Charlie's Angels remake sounded like a lot like a dig at Liam, who referred to Miley as "angel" multiple times in the past. The actor called Miley his “sweet, sweet angel" in a speech at the G’Day USA Los Angeles Gala as well as using the nickname multiple times on Instagram, writing things like "Happiest birthday to my favorite little angel!" and "My little angel and I" in the captions of now-deleted posts.

"Don't call me angel when I'm a mess / Don't call me angel when I get undressed / You know I, I don't like that, boy / I make my money, and I write the checks / So say my name with a little respect / All my girls successful, and you're just our guest," sings Miley.

October 2019: Miley disses Liam on Instagram Live

As of October, Miley had fully moved on from Liam with Cody Simpson. The two had been seen kissing and getting tattoos, as well as posting some spicy photos of themselves on Instagram. In an IG Live, Miley talked about how Cody had renewed her hope in men, explaining that she "thought all guys were evil, but it’s not true.”

Her compliment to Cody was also a total diss to Liam, who had been seen walking hand-in-hand with Dynasty star Maddison Brown around the same time as the IG Live.

November 2019: The two unfollow each other on Instagram

The split may have been *legally* official when Liam filed for divorce, but the real heartbreak happened during the mutual Instagram unfollow that had us feeling 💔💔. The pair made it clear that they weren't getting back together any time soon when they unfollowed each other on IG, and then later deleted photos that they had posted of the other person.

November 2019: Liam's sister-in-law throws shade at Miley

In an interview with Hola!, Chris Hemsworth's wife Elsa Pataky made her feelings about Miley abundantly clear by saying that she believed Liam "deserves much more."

“My brother-in-law, well…after a relationship that you've dedicated ten years to, he's a little bit down, but he's coping well. He’s a strong boy, and he deserves the best, I think he deserves much more,” Elsa explained. “You always find support in your family, and he's joined at the hip with his brother, who has been there to give all the strength he needed.”

January 2020: The divorce is officially finalized

PEOPLE obtained legal documents that showed that Miley and Liam's marriage was officially ended by a Los Angeles judge on January 28th. According to the court papers, neither sought out spousal support from the other, nor were there any "community property assets or liabilities" created during their marriage.

November 27, 2020: Miley drops her album Plastic Hearts with multiple songs about Liam

Plastic Hearst was Miley's first album post-split, and the singer admitted that the divorce caused her to erase and re-record the entire album before releasing it. "Just when I thought the body of work was finished… it was ALL erased. Including most of the musics relevance. Because EVERYTHING had changed," she wrote.

"WTF Do I Know," the first track on Plastic Hearts, has a lyric that goes "I'm the type to drive a pickup through your mansion / I'm completely naked but I'm making it fashion / Maybe gettin' married just to cause a distraction."

There's also "Angels Like You," which hints at Liam's old pet name for Miley. "I know that you're wrong for me / Gonna wish we never met on the day I leave / I brought you down to your knees / 'Cause they say that misery loves company," Miley sings.

And lastly, there's "Never Be Me," a song that delves into the rumors that Miley cheated on Liam (and vice versa). The lyrics read, "But if you're looking for stable, that'll never be me / If you're looking for faithful, that'll never be me."

January 13, 2023: Miley releases "Flowers" with the accompanying music video

Just when you thought that the Miley/Liam drama was over, Miley drops a single girl anthem on Liam's birthday. Coincidence? We think not. If you listen to "Flowers" (which is currently the most-streamed song in a single week in Spotify history) you might realize that the lyrics to "Flowers" directly correlate with "When I Was Your Man," the song that sources claimed Liam dedicated to Miley at their wedding.

Miley also sings about building a home that burned down, which many believe to be in reference to the Malibu home that Liam and Miley lost because of a wildfire. In the music video, Miley struts down a street in a golden dress similar to the gown that Jennifer Lawrence wore alongside Liam on the Hunger Games red carpet. Fans called out this coincidental similarity amidst the resurfacing of a video clip where J. Law confirmed she's kissed Liam off-screen. "Liam and I grew up together," the actress laughed. "Liam’s real hot. What would you have done?"

Another running "Flowers" theory is based on more unconfirmed cheating rumors. Twitter account PopTingz claims that the house where the "Flowers" music video is set was used by Liam to cheat on Miley with 14 different women during their marriage, although the information has not been verified.
