Taylor Swift is reportedly super-serious with British actor Joe Alwyn, but you'd hardly know it—the two have been pretty low-key during their entire six-year relationship. Of course, Taylor's notorious for not-so-subtly dishing on past affairs in her songs. Not this time, it seems! The two were spotted together in a rare public outing just before her album release.

But the star recently revealed how her current beau and co-songwriter inspired the first track on her album Midnights, which dropped on Oct. 21. The song is called "Lavender Haze," and Taylor first heard the turn of phrase while watching Mad Men. "It was a common phrase that was used in the ’50s, where they would just describe being in love,” she explained on Instagram. “It's that all-encompassing love glow."

However, Joe isn't the only one of Taylor's lovers who appears in the new album. A bonus track, “Would’ve, Could’ve, Should’ve,” sheds more light on her relationship with John Mayer way back in 2010, and let me just say, it's pretty emo.

Her relationship with Tom Hiddleston is also brought up in the new album with additional details about their split.

And now that her album buzz has died down, Taylor is heading out on her Eras tour, which will apparently tap into songs from her past as well as more current hits. The setlist is TBA, though. Either way, everyone will be hearing a lot more about her memories of relationships-gone-by.

While I am thrilled about her current relationship success, I can't forget about all of the men (and the epic songs they continue to inspire) that came first. Girlfriend's been through a lot to get to this relationship! Here's a recap of some of her boyfriends past...

Joe and Taylor dated for a few months back in 2008, but they broke up in October of that year. "We were children," Joe told Andy Cohen in 2016, per ET. "We were 18, 19. Young enough."

Taylor later went on The Ellen DeGeneres Show and said Joe dumped her during a phone call that lasted less than a minute. “You know what it's like, when I find that person that is right for me, he'll be wonderful...When I look at that person, I'm not even going to remember the boy who broke up with me over the phone in 25 seconds when I was 18...I looked at the call log— it was like 27 seconds. That's got to be a record,” she said.

Taylor later told Ryan Seacrest on his KIIS-FM radio show, per MTV, that she wrote about the split. “That's just how I deal with things," she said. Taylor also told Ryan that she did a last-minute recording session of the song she wrote about the breakup, "Forever and Always," in order to get it on the album. "[It's] a song about watching somebody completely fade away in a relationship and wondering what you did wrong," she told People.

The songs "Mr. Perfectly Fine" and "Better Than Revenge" are also rumored to have been inspired by the JoBro, per Distractify.

Lucas was that cute guy who starred alongside Taylor in the “You Belong with Me” video. The two reportedly dated super-briefly (Billboard says between March and April 2009).

Lucas later told MTV that Taylor is a better kisser than Miley Cyrus, who he also kissed on the set of Hannah Montana: The Movie. “I liked kissing Taylor a little more,” he said, adding that he had a crush on her before they met.

Taylor met Twilight star Taylor Lautner on the set of Valentine’s Day. They reportedly dated between August and December of 2009. Lautner later told Entertainment Tonight that “It was a good time. It was a fun few months there...”

Taylor wrote the single "Back To December” about her ex, apologizing for a rough night and seemingly regretting the breakup. "I miss your tan skin, your sweet smile," she wrote, along with, "It turns out freedom ain't nothing but missing you," and "wishing I'd realized what I had when you were mine."

Lea Michele and John Stamos later grilled Lautner about the romance and song on Facebook Live and he had nothing but great things to say about his ex. “It's like, Taylor's the nicest,” he said.

Whew, this one is heavy! John and Taylor got together in the summer of 2010 and dated for a few months, but it didn’t end well. Taylor later implied that John could have been a little, okay, a lot nicer to her.

Of course, she said it all in a song titled “Dear John.”

"Don't you think I was too young to be messed with? The girl in the dress cried the whole way home. I should've known,” she wrote in the lyrics.

John later told Rolling Stone that Taylor’s song “humiliated me.”

“I never got an e-mail. I never got a phone call,” he says. “I was really caught off-guard, and it really humiliated me at a time when I’d already been dressed down. I mean, how would you feel if, at the lowest you’ve ever been, someone kicked you even lower?”

Apparently, the pain from their split has stuck with her more than a decade later. Taylor released the bonus track “Would’ve, Could’ve, Should’ve” on her new album Midnights, and it rehashes what went down between the two singers way back when, Page Six reported.

“At 19, and the God’s honest truth is that the pain was heaven/ And now that I’m grown, I’m scared of ghosts/ Memories feel like weapons/ And now that I know, I wish you left me wondering,” the now 32-year-old musician sings.

"If you never saved me from boredom, I could’ve gone on as I was/ But lord you made me feel important, and then you tried to erase us,” the song continues.

Taylor also says in the song, "Give me back my girlhood, it was mine first."

In response to the new song, Swifties turned to Twitter to call out John Mayer for how he treated Taylor. “John Mayer, be scared,” tweeted one user. "John mayer you better start running,” wrote another, per Page Six.

This one has never officially been confirmed, but Taylor and the late Glee star reportedly hit it off in the spring of 2010. Nothing much every came of it, though, and it fizzled after a month or so of dating, Billboard says.

Taylor reportedly wrote the song “Mine” about Cory, which she later talked about to Yahoo. "This is a situation where a guy that I just barely knew put his arm around me by the water, and I saw the entire relationship flash before my eyes, almost like a weird science-fiction movie," she said.

"After I wrote the song, things sort of fell apart, as things so often do. And I hadn't talked to him in a couple months. And the song came out, and that day, I got an e-mail from him. And I was like, 'Yes!' Because that one was sort of half-confession and half-prediction or projection of what I saw."

Fans were surprised when Taylor was spotted strolling through the streets of Brooklyn with her arm around Jake. A source told Us Weekly in December 2010 that “it’s definitely serious.”

In mid-January, Us Weekly reported that Jake dumped Taylor “out of the blue” just before New Year’s. "Jake just told her it wasn't working out…Taylor is really upset and hurt,” a source said. “She doesn't know what she did for him to put a stop to it. She feels really burned by him."

A year later, a source told Us Weekly that Taylor was "haunted by that relationship," adding that Jake, "totally screwed with her mind."

Taylor reportedly wrote the song “The Last Time” about Jake, which she told NPR is about an "experience I had with someone who was kind of this unreliable guy. You never know when he's going to leave, you never know when he's going to come back, but he always does come back.”

She also reportedly wrote “All Too Well” about him. "'All Too Well' was the hardest to write because it took me a long time to filter through everything I wanted to say," she told Good Morning America. "It started out being a 10-minute song, which you can't put on an album. I had to filter it down to a story that could work in the form of a song."

However, after a contentious dispute with her record label, Taylor rerecorded the "Red" album and released the full 10-minute song with never-before-heard lyrics that further hinted at her fall-out with Jake, per The Washington Post.

Taylor dated the 18-year-old for several months in 2012 (she was 23 at the time), and clearly she won over his famous family. Conor’s grandmother Ethel Kennedy later told People that Taylor “is just spectacular. She’s just sensational inside and out.”

A source told People that Taylor was “head over heels into” Conor, adding, “[She] is on cloud nine...She thinks she is in love.” Taylor even bought a $4.9 million house in Cape Cod to be closer to Conor and his family, the New York Daily News reported.

There were rumors that it was because Taylor came on too strong. But sources told Us Weekly that “it was just a distance thing.”

Their relationship in late 2012 and early 2013 was brief but apparently poignant. Photos surfaced of the two of them strolling around Central Park together and people freaked out.

“When I see photos from that day I think: Relationships are hard, at any age. And adding in that you don’t really understand exactly how it works when you’re 18, trying to navigate all that stuff didn’t make it easier,” Harry later told Rolling Stone. "I mean, you’re a little bit awkward to begin with. You’re on a date with someone you really like. It should be that simple, right? It was a learning experience for sure. But at the heart of it–I just wanted it to be a normal date.”

Taylor later wrote two songs rumored to be about Harry—“Out of the Woods” and “Style.”

“I mean, I don’t know if they’re about me or not…” Harry told Rolling Stone, “but the issue is, she’s so good, they’re bloody everywhere.” Harry later said the songs were “great…it’s the most amazing unspoken dialogue ever.”

Taylor and the British DJ reportedly met through mutual friend Ellie Goulding in 2015 at The Brit Awards and hit it off. They dated for more than a year and were spotted spending holidays together.

They broke up in 2016, and after their split, it was revealed that Taylor had ghost written Calvin’s hit “This Is What You Came For” and there was a lot of back and forth about why she wasn’t credited properly.

Calvin later fired back on Twitter, writing “I wrote the music, produced the song, arranged it and cut the vocals though. And initially [Swift] wanted it kept secret, hence the pseudonym.”

He also took a jab at Taylor in a tweet that’s been deleted with “I know you’re off tour and you need someone new to try and bury like Katy [Perry] ETC but I’m not that guy, sorry. I won’t allow it.”

Taylor later referenced this during her "Look What You Made Me Do" video, where she crawls out of a graveyard next to a headstone that reads "Nils Sjoberg," which was the fake name she used for “This Is What You Came For” songwriting credits.

Right after her breakup with Calvin, Taylor was seen getting close to Tom at the Met Gala in May 2016. They also were photographed kissing on a beach in Rhode Island.

“She’s going with it, and why shouldn’t she? They have been bonding over the industry, their childhoods, where they are from. It’s the getting-to-know-you phase. Taylor is just happy to have the time to meet someone new and move on from Calvin,” a source told Us Weekly.

The two were spotted all over the place, including at Taylor’s 4th of July party at her house. Tom was photographed wearing a shirt that said “I GQ that it was a joke. “We were playing a game and I slipped and hurt my back,” he says. “And I wanted to protect the graze from the sun and said, ‘Does anyone have a T-shirt?’ And one of her friends said, ‘I’ve got this’…And we all laughed about it. It was a joke.”

"Taylor felt he wanted to take the relationship to be too public," a source told E! News, "and she was not happy about it, and thought it was too much publicity."

Recently, Taylor has seemingly commented on their split via songs on her new album Midnights. One track, "Maroon," focuses on a former relationship with leading lyrics. "And I lost you / The one I was dancing with / In New York, no shoes," she sings. The line seems to be referencing the 2016 Met Gala where Tom and Taylor danced together, per E! News.

Another track on the album, "Midnight Rain," also appears to be about Tom. The song discusses how the two weren't on the same page and that their differences eventually led to their breakup. "He wanted it comfortable, I wanted that pain," Taylor sings. "He wanted a bride, I was making my own name / Chasing that fame, he stayed the same."

In May 2017, The Sun reported that Taylor and the British actor had been dating for months. Taylor apparently wore disguises in the beginning of their relationship to avoid being detected. “Taylor and Joe are the real deal, this is a very serious relationship,” a source told The Sun. “But after what happened with Tom Hiddleston, they were determined to keep it quiet.”

In December 2017, Taylor and Joe were spotted kissing at Ed Sheeran’s Jingle Bell Ball performance in London. "They literally slow danced to all Ed's songs with their arms around one another and just kept looking at each other and kissing," one fan tweeted, per Us Weekly. Another concertgoer wrote, “Taylor and Joe are swaying whilst Ed sings 'Perfect.'"

In September 2018, Joe kinda-sorta addressed his relationship, making it very clear he wasn’t going to reveal much. “I’m aware people want to know about that side of things. I think we have been successfully very private,” he told British Vogue, per E! News. “And that has now sunk in for people…but I really prefer to talk about work.”

He made it clear that he won’t be spilling the beans on his love life anytime soon when talking to the WSJ in 2022. “If you give it to them, it just opens the door,” he said. Joe also joked, “If I had a pound for every time I think I’ve been told I’ve been engaged, then I’d have a lot of pound coins.” But also dropped this nugget: “The truth is, if the answer was yes [he’s engaged], I wouldn’t say, and if the answer was no, I wouldn’t say.”

During an interview on The Kelly Clarkson Show in 2022, Joe explained how he helped to write some of the songs on Taylor's "Evermore" and "Furthermore" albums under the pseudonym William Bowery. He also co-wrote some of the tracks on Taylor's new Midnight album.

"We chose to do it so the people first and foremost would listen to the music first before dissecting the fact that we did it together,” he told Kelly Clarkson.

Joe has writing credits on tracks, such as "Exile,” “Betty,” and “Champagne Problems,” among other songs. He even won a Grammy for his work on Folklore.

Flash forward all the way to present day. In preparation for her Midnights album, Taylor confessed that the first song, "Lavender Haze," was inspired by her current beau (and possible fiancé, according to reports from The Sun).

She said in an Instagram video that she discovered the term while watching Mad Men. “It turns out that it was a common phrase that was used in the ’50s, where they would just describe being in love,” she said, explaining that a “Lavender Haze," was an “all-encompassing love glow.”

Taylor further hinted at Joe's relevance by referencing her "relationship of six years” and their desire to keep things private from the public eye. She said the duo has “had to dodge weird rumors, tabloid stuff” and that they “just ignore it." So, the song, she explained,"is sort of about the act of ignoring that stuff to protect the real stuff.”

Another track on the Midnights album, "Sweet Nothing," is also thought to be about her current BF, according to E! News. "I found myself a-running home to your sweet nothings / Outside they're push and shoving / You're in the kitchen humming / All that you ever wanted from me was sweet nothing," Taylor sings.
