After 30-plus years, we're finally getting a Coming to America 2.
That's right: A sequel to Eddie Murphy's iconic 1988 movie Coming to America is coming. Aptly titled Coming 2 America, the film sees Murphy back in one of his most legendary roles, Prince Akeem (now king), and several of his O.G. cast members will be by his side.
“I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out,” Murphy said in 2019 about the sequel. “A lot of people have this expectation, like, people would say to me when they found out I was doing it, ‘Don’t fuck that movie up.’ So we’ve gone above and beyond what anybody would think. I’m really, really happy with it.”
So what can viewers expect with Coming to America 2, a.k.a. Coming 2 America? Here's what we know so far:
The release date is March 5, 2021. The sequel will be dropping right onto Amazon Prime Video.
Yes, Prince Akeem (Eddie Murphy) and Semmi (Arsenio Hall) are back! Well, now it's King Akeem to you! According to a plot description from Amazon, Coming 2 America is “set in the lush and royal country of Zamunda” as well as all around the globe “as newly crowned King Akeem (Eddie Murphy) and his trusted confidant Semmi (Arsenio Hall) embark on an all-new hilarious adventure” that brings them back to Queens, New York, “where it all began.”
Who else is in it? Aside from Murphy and Hall, Coming 2 America features returning actors James Earl Jones, John Amos, Paul Bates, Vanessa Bell Calloway, and Shari Headley, as well as Wesley Snipes, Jermaine Fowler, Leslie Jones, Tracy Morgan, KiKi Layne, Teyana Taylor, Nomzamo Mbatha, and Bella Murphy.
