Trouble brewing around Colorado State's Larry Eustachy again as school conducts "climate assessment"
Colorado State will conduct a “climate assessment” of the men’s basketball team under head coach Larry Eustachy, the school announced.
In a statement released by CSU, athletic director Joe Parker said: “We have started a climate assessment, which involves conversations with the students and staff members associated with the men’s basketball program. As always, we will not make any public comments until our process is complete and have no additional information to share at this time.”
Justin Michael, former sports editor for CSU’s student newspaper, the Rocky Mountain Collegian, first reported the investigation. Michael added that Parker “is expected to make a decision on Eustachy soon.”
This isn’t the first time Eustachy’s been under internal review from the university. In 2013-2014, former athletic director Jack Graham investigated him for “creating a culture of fear and intimidation.” Eustachy admitted he “went way over the line.” Graham advocated for termination of Eustachy’s contract but was overruled by the university’s president, Tony Frank.
Eustachy’s troubles span further back than his time at Colorado State, which started in 2012. In 2003 The Des Moines Register published pictures of him kissing college students at the University of Missouri with alcohol in his hand. Similar stories emerged at Kansas State as well. He resigned on May 5, 2003. After a year away from basketball, he returned to coach Southern Miss.
Colorado State is 10-13 heading into Wednesday night’s game against Wyoming.
