The Collabs: George Esquivel Launches Sneakers Inspired By Obama Photographer Pete Souza & More

Sept. 29, 2020: Made-in-America designer George Esquivel is launching sneakers for the first time. With that comes a limited-edition design in collaboration with “The Way I See It,” a film about former Chief Official White House Photographer for President Barack Obama Pete Souza, from Focus Features, MSNBC Films, Jaywalker Pictures and Ace Content. The Esquivel X The Way I See It style, designed with the word “Vote,” supports voter registration and participation in democracy, with a portion of proceeds going to non-partisan organization Headcount. The sneaker will launch in line with the movie’s premiere of on Oct. 16. It will be available for purchase for $325 at Esquivel House in L.A. and online at esquivelshoes.com.

Sept. 15, 2020: APL (Athletic Propulsion Labs) tapped fitness and wellness brand Tone It Up for a collection filled with workout-ready shoes as Tone It Up’s first-ever footwear collaboration. Comprised of three unique twists on classic APL silhouettes, the capsule takes inspiration from the Tone It Up community and pays homage to the brand’s co-founders Karena and Katrina. The collection includes an Ascend high-top training shoe, a TechLoom Wave sneaker and a TechLoom slide, all dropping on Sept. 16 at AthleticPropulsionLabs.com for $100 to $225.

Sept. 15, 2020: New York-based footwear brand Season Three is joining forces with multimedia designer Benjamin Edgar to create a limited-edition capsule of signature boots and laces. Together, they reimagined Season Three’s Ansel Boots to create two new texture suede styles in can’t-miss colorways. TItled the “Extreme Conditions” collection, the Season Three x Benjamin Edgar collection is available now at SeasonThree.com; the boots retail for $425 whereas the laces can be purchased separately for $35.

Sept. 9, 2020: Deckers x Lab, a division of Deckers (the team behind Hoka One, Teva, and Ugg), released its new K-ST 21 Sneaker model. These “hyper” sneakers’ primary feature is an innovative Carbon Bow Technology suspension system and coordinating SwallowTail heel. These attributes are designed for enhanced arch support and steadier strides. They are crafted from CORDURA Ballistic nylon upper with a stretch nylon nose panel and lightweight, stacked foam heel. The sneakers retail for $199 and are exclusively available on deckersxlab.com.

Sept. 8, 2020: Sarah Flint has debuted the first style in her capsule collection with the prestigious New York-based trim company, Samuel & Sons. The Mackie is a derby style shoe that was inspired by Flint’s “impeccably stylish” grandmother who was an artist that lived on the Île Saint-Louis in Paris. Offered in Navy and Cognac, the fashionable flat features extra padding insoles, silk laces and Samuel & Sons’ trim throughout. Additional styles include a pump, flat and boot, which will be released throughout the fall ’20 season. The Mackie is now available on sarahflint.com for $455.

Sept. 1, 2020: Sanuk is introducing a capsule collection with cosmic wetsuit brand Kassia+Surf and its founder, professional athlete Kassia Meador. Dropping today, the women’s collection features sandals and sneakers made of low-impact materials including hemp and recycled plastic bottles while fusing Kassia’s signature psychedelic style. The line features tie-dye prints and custom Southwest artwork across two key styles: the Pair O Dice and Yoga Sling 3. Both retail for $45 and are available now on Sanuk.com.

Aug. 20, 2020: As part of its new Project Earth initiative, Selfridges is hosting a pop-up shop for eco-friendly sneaker brand Cariuma. Following the label’s sustainable ethos, the pop-up is outfitted with tables made from Mycelium, a natural material derived from mushrooms. It’s also home to a miniature tree farm for eight weeks. All shoppers who visit the location will be given a plant of their own in a biodegradable, plantable pot. The pop-up is situated on the second floor of Selfridges’ Oxford Street storefront and features a mix of Cariuma‘s classic styles and new fall launches.

Aug. 20, 2020: Havaianas is helping celebrate the 100th anniversary of hat brand New Era, for a capsule collection of bucket hats, trucker hats, classic caps and flip-flops. All items will feature both brands’ logos, with both the Trucker style and 9Twenty classic hat including New Era’s signature silver stamp, identifying them as a signature New Era style. The limited-edition collection is available on Havaianas.com and select Havaianas stores. The unisex flip-flops retail for $26, with the hats at $26 to $32.

Aug. 17, 2020: For the 14th year in a row, Vans is partnering with Japanese brand WTAPS for the Vault by Vans x WTPAS release, a two-drop series of styles that combine Vans’ classic styles with WTAPS’ military-inspired looks with an urban vibe. The collection features the WTAPS logo and GPS coordinates printed along the outsole of the OG Old School and OG Slip-on styles. The first release will include versions in white with black outsoles, and black versions with orange outsoles. The first drop will be available on Aug. 22 at select Vault by Vans dealers. A second drop will hit later in the season and include apparel.
