Stephen Colbert invites Jimmy Fallon and Conan O'Brien on 'The Late Show' to bond over Trump insults

The Late Show with Stephen Colbert tweeted Tuesday night’s cold-open sketch early, and for good reason. Colbert teamed up with two of his late night rivals, the Tonight Show’s Jimmy Fallon and Conan’s Conan O’Brien, to bond over the insults they’ve received from our country’s president.

Donald Trump recently went after late night hosts at a rally in South Carolina, calling out Fallon, Colbert, and Jimmy Kimmel specifically, while making generalizations about all the current late night lineup.

The sketch began with Colbert finishing up a monologue with one last joke about Trump, then receiving a video call from Fallon. When Colbert learns that Trump called Fallon and Colbert a lost soul and a low life, respectively, he decides a different late night figure better fits those descriptions and dials O’Brien.

O’Brien, who’s in the middle of shaving, doesn’t seem to know that Trump has even been elected, asking, “The real estate guy who sells steaks, he’s president?”

Colbert and Fallon try to tell him how bad things have gotten with Trump, but O’Brien is more focused on inviting them to watch him shave his chest. The call ends with Colbert and Fallon setting a lunch date at Red Hen.

The Late Show with Stephen Colbert airs weeknights at 11:35 on CBS.
