Besides therapy and a moisturizer-packed skincare routine, a mattress is arguably one the most important investments in self-care a person can make. Few things compare to the joy of getting a good night's sleep and without a supportive mattress, achieving this is unlikely.

I recently had a chance to test Cocoon by Sealy's Chill Memory Foam Mattress and as a hot sleeper prone to spurts of back pain, I've found that my sleep has been transformed in ways I didn't know possible. Instead of having to roll around to find a spot that feels good until eventually falling asleep when I reach exhaustion, I'm now getting into bed and falling asleep within minutes.

If you're in the market for a firmer-feeling mattress that ships in a box, I should note here that Cocoon by Sealy is currently having their biggest sale of the year for Memorial Day where they're taking 35% off mattresses. Before you start shopping, here's everything to know about the brand's best-selling Chill Memory Foam mattress.

What does Cocoon by Sealy's Chill Memory Foam Mattress feel like?

The Chill Memory Foam mattress has a medium-firm feel that molds to your shape when you lie down. It doesn't quite feel like sinking into a cloud, which makes it a good choice for people who want a memory foam mattress that doesn't feel too foam-y. Despite only measuring 10 inches high, it feels immensely supportive and is so comfortable that it's hard to resist the urge to curl up and take a nap when you sit down on it. Also, thanks to the mattress's stretch-knit cover being infused with a cooling compound that absorbs and dissipates heat, it feels cool to the touch.

How much does it cost?

The Chill Memory Foam mattress comes in six sizes, Twin, Twin XL, Full, Queen, King, and California King. Prices start at $730 for the Twin and range up to $1,310 for the California King.

Right now, all sizes are on sale for 35% off for Memorial Day and the brand is offering free sheets and free pillows with purchase. This means a twin is now only $469 and a California Queen is only $849. I tested the Queen size, which normally retails for $1,080 but is currently on sale for $699.

What was the delivery process like?

The delivery process was the winning combination of fast and easy. Cocoon by Sealy processes orders within 48 hours (excluding holidays and weekends) and ships in as little as 3 days via UPS. Mattresses arrive packaged inside a large cardboard box with grips, which makes lugging one up the stairs slightly less difficult. The set-up part is wildly unfussy too. Simply set the mattress down on top of your bed frame or a flat surface, set it free, and watch it reach near-full shape in just a minute's time.

Pros v. Cons

Pros

  • It's affordable compared to other cooling memory foam mattresses. Even without the 35% off sale, Cocoon by Sealy's Chill Memory Foam is considerably less expensive than other direct-to-consumer out-of-the-box memory foam mattress offerings.

  • It makes little to no noise. You won't be woken up by your partner turning in their sleep or getting up in the middle of the night.

  • It's cozy and cooling. If you're a hot sleeper who wants a firmer-feeling memory foam mattress, you will find this to be supportive and comfortable.

Cons

  • It's not very plush. Personally, this is a huge pro to me, but, if you prefer a softer mattress, Cocoon by Sealy's Memory Foam Chill mattress probably isn't for you.

  • It's less foam-y than other memory foam mattresses. Case in point: the wine glass test. If you're looking for a memory foam mattress so foam-y that you can jump up down without fear of knocking over a glass of wine, this isn't it. (It is foamy enough that you can carefully walk around the bed without one knocking over.)

Is it worth it?

Absolutely yes. If you're a hot sleeper who wants a more firm memory foam mattress, Cocoon by Sealy's Memory Foam Chill mattress is a failsafe choice that won't break the bank. Notably, if you're not in love with yours, you can return your mattress within 100 days of purchase.
