It was announced this weekend that Princess Eugenie had named her newborn son August Philip Hawke Brooksbank, after giving birth to him earlier this month. She and husband Jack Brooksbank posed for some family photographs taken by their midwife outside Frogmore Cottage to announce the news of their son's name, and the new family looked blissfully happy.

When it comes to August's name, Eugenie and Jack have very much opted to keep it in the family - and it turns out there was a subtle clue about their future child's name in a photograph taken of the couple all the way back at their wedding in October 2018.

As pointed out by royal fan account Couture and Royals on Twitter, one of the official photographs of Princess Eugenie and her husband taken on their wedding day (seen here) features the pair posing underneath a photograph of Prince Albert, Eugenie's great-great-great-great grandfather. Prince Albert, who lived from 1819 until 1861, was married to Queen Victoria - and his full name was Francis Albert Augustus Charles Emmanuel. In calling their son August, Princess Eugenie has paid tribute to her ancestor in a lovely way.

We don't know if the couple knew at the time that they'd ultimately end up naming their first-born son after Prince Albert, but either way it's extra sweet now to see the picture (taken by photographer Alex Bramall) of them underneath the late royal's portrait on their wedding day.

In the announcement of the name shared on Princess Eugenie's official Instagram account, she wrote: "We wanted to introduce you to August Philip Hawke Brooksbank.. 💙💙💙⁣ Thank you for so many wonderful messages. Our hearts are full of love for this little human, words can't express. We are excited to be able to share these photos with you.⁣

"📸 By our wonderful midwife. Thank you to the wonderful essential workers including our midwife who came to discharge our boy."

Eugenie and Jack welcomed baby August on 9 February 2021 at The Portland Hospital in London, which looks like pure luxury. Two days later, the family left hospital and moved back into Frogmore Cottage, the Windsor home owned by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, that Eugenie, Jack and August have generously been allowed to live in.

While primarily named after his great-times-five-grandad, August was also given two other names belonging to his relatives. His first middle name, Philip, obviously comes from Princess Eugenie's grandfather the Duke of Edinburgh, who at 99 is currently in hospital. Hawke is a family name on Jack Brooksbank's side, having belonged to the baby's great-great-great-great-great paternal grandfather, Reverend Edward Hawke Brooksbank, who was born in 1789.

All in all, a very well thought out name. Congrats, Eugenie and Jack!
