Clemson football weigh-in: Heaviest and lightest player, biggest weight gain and loss
Clemson football held its annual “Big Weigh-In” on Thursday in the weight room at the Allen N. Reeves Football Complex.
The team, which opened preseason practice Friday, watched and cheered as 134 players took turns hopping on the scale with the entire football staff looking on.
Among the results:
QB challenge: Ranking the quarterbacks Clemson football will face in the ACC this season
Up for grabs: Clemson football's most intriguing position battles include middle linebacker, guard
Heaviest player: Dietrick Pennington
Pennington, a redshirt freshman from Memphis, packed 25 pounds on to his 6-foot-5 frame since last season and tipped the scales at 360. Now if he can just remain healthy; he played four snaps in his debut against South Carolina State last year before suffering a season-ending knee injury.
Honorable mention: Soph. OL Bryn Tucker, 333; Soph. OL Marcus Tate, 328; Fr. OL Collin Sadler, 323; RS Fr. OL Tristan Leigh, 317; Soph. DT Payton Page, 317.
Lightest player: Quinn Castner
To no one’s surprise, the lightest player was a kicker – redshirt sophomore Quinn Castner of Rock Hill. The 5-5, 145-pound Castner is a bioengineering major who was an ACC Honor Roll selection last year. A walk-on, he made his Clemson debut against The Citadel in 2020, booming a touchback on his first and only career kickoff.
Honorable mention: Soph. P Aiden Swanson, 165; RS Fr. PK Hogan Morton, 165; Fr. WR Clay Swinney, 167; RS Fr. S Jacob Hendricks, 171.
Biggest weight gain: Collin Sadler
A freshman and mid-year enrollee, Sadler weighed in at 295 pounds when he enrolled at Clemson in January; on Thursday he tipped the scales at 323 pounds, a gain of 28 pounds.
Honorable mention: Pennington, 25; RS Fr. LB Reed Morrissey, 23; RS Soph. RB Domonique Thomas, 20; Fr. DE Jahiem Lawson, 18.
Biggest weight loss: Payton Page
Page, who still checks in at 317 after shedding 18 pounds, has wasted little time in impressing new defensive tackles coach Nick Eason.

“He’s a guy that’s going to be a dominant nose tackle on the inside moving forward,” Eason said. “I’m looking for a breakout year for him. I would definitely say he’s the most improved.”
Honorable mention: Jr. QB D.J. Uiagalelei, 16; Jr. DE Kevin Swint, 16; Swanson, 15; Fr. OL Peyton Pitts, 14.
