As listeners of her radio shows will know, Clara Amfo has an infectious passion for music – and a gift for uncovering the world’s most exciting new artists.

So it probably shouldn’t come as a surprise that she brings the same energy to her travels.

In this final episode of The Telegraph's Postcards podcast, in which guests recall their greatest travel adventures whilst globetrotting remains largely on hold, Clara talks Greg Dickinson through a few of her most vivid travel memories, including a childhood trip to Ghana, a more recent one to Tokyo, and a taste of the Caribbean at the Notting Hill Carnival.

Memories of Ghana

"This is a great postcard for what Ghana is. It's openness, friendliness. The Ghanaian catchphrase is Akwaaba, which means 'you are welcome'. Everywhere you go people are saying 'Akwaaba, Akwaaba, Akwaaba', so you can just start playing table football with a bunch of kids and they will entertain you."

A love for Notting Hill carnival

"When you first touch road at carnival, you will be hit by everybody else's body heat, as well as the actual heat. But the first thing you will smell in the air – it's a very fragrant affair – you'll be hit by the smell of the most well-marinated, well-seasoned, most delicious food you will every smell in your life. I think us, as a nation, should be forever indebted to people from the Caribbean for their cuisine and music. It overtakes you. Nothing beats some roadside jerk chicken."

A wild trip to Japan

"We are at the robot restaurant here. Basically, it's like a cos-play setup. The robot restaurant is like Power Rangers. You will watch a full-on theatrical production, and it is absolutely incredible. They will create these giant, dinosaur, monster-type figures. An octopus on wheels, a flying tiger, a unicorn. And an actor will be on top of it singing a dramatic Japanese pop song. It's honestly the bonkers side of Japan that you're told about, and it's so fun."
