Welcome to On the Rise, a BAZAAR.com series featuring the breakout talents everyone will be talking about. Get to know these fresh faces on the verge of stardom.

Growing up in northern Kentucky, Ciara Bravo never expected to pursue a career in acting. That is, until she was scouted by an agent at a county fair when she was just eight years old. In our latest episode of On the Rise, Bravo talks landing her first role on the hit TV show Big Time Rush, starring opposite Tom Holland in the Russo brothers’ Cherry, and her dream collaboration with director Greta Gerwig.

Watch the trailer for the recently released Cherry below and read on for some of Bravo's highlights.

On prepping for her role in Cherry

In Cherry, the crime drama film directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, Bravo plays Emily, the love interest of Tom Holland's character, an army veteran struggling with PTSD and opioid addiction.

"I was left speechless," she recalls of the moment her agent revealed she booked the role, opposite Holland no less. "I thought he had the wrong number because I hadn't heard anything about this project in weeks. ... Needless to say, I was shocked."

Of her character, Bravo says, "She also goes on such a harrowing journey and goes to such dark places. And dealing with something like addiction that's a battle that's so personal to everyone who experiences it, and I just wanted to approach it with as much respect as I possibly could."

After connecting through a friend's family member who works at a rehab facility in Cleveland, Ohio, Bravo says, "I got the chance to speak to anyone who felt comfortable sharing their story. And that experience was so valuable to me. I know I wouldn't be able to do half the job that I did on this movie without their help and without their generosity."

On imposter syndrome …

"I've got a severe case of imposter syndrome," says Bravo. "I am an actor, it is my job. It's my career, it has been for half of my life now. But I still feel like a phony every time I call myself an actor. I feel like it wasn't until I decided not to go to college and pursue this full time, that's when I thought, 'Okay, I'm an actor. This is a lifelong decision."
