Chrissy Teigen has revealed she was hospitalised on Sunday after suffering consistent bleeding with her pregnancy.

While speaking on Instagram live, the 34-year-old model and cookbook author told her 31.3m followers: “I was at the point today where I was never stopping bleeding, and that’s obviously really bad.”

The star, who shares two children with husband John Legend, confirmed that she had been admitted to Cedars Sinai Medical Centre in Los Angeles on 27 September.

She told her followers that the complications during her third pregnancy have been “hard to come to terms with” because she otherwise felt “really good” and "loved being pregnant.”

Teigen described the incessant bleeding she experienced as “more than a period, definitely not spotting. Every time I’d go to the bathroom, it would be blood. Even just laying there, it would be blood. Today the big difference was it was like if you’d turn a faucet on too low and leave it.”

The TV personality first shared that she was in a maternity unit after posting a photo from the hospital, but she deleted the picture after she realised it accidentally revealed her telephone number and hospital room.

In an attempt to make light of the situation, Teigen documented her hospital stay on Twitter, praising the food and teasing her husband for checking out what he believed to be a mini bar.

In a video of Legend sitting opposite her in the hospital room, Teigen said: “John just got up to see what’s in the mini bar. What’s in the mini bar John?” to which he replied “perhaps it’s medicine, I didn’t actually look.”

The star then scolded her husband, saying: “It’s not a mini bar!” while the singer laughed.

During her Instagram live, Teigen shared how difficult the complications during her pregnancy have been: “It’s hard because I’m in that weird in-between time of it being really dangerous to try anything.

"Basically, if I can make it through the next few weeks, we can get through the danger zone. But we have to get through this first. It is scary. We’re on it, we’re trying everything we can,” she said.

But the model did assure her fans that the baby is doing well: “I feel really good, the baby is so healthy, growing stronger than Luna or Miles. He moves a lot, much earlier than they ever did. He’s so strong, and I can’t wait for him.”

Earlier this month, Teigen revealed that she had been placed on “serious bed rest” during her third pregnancy. Writing on Instagram, the 34-year-old said: "I didn't really know that bed rest was in bed. I honestly thought bed rest was you have to really, really relax, stay home. I thought it could be couch rest."

“It’s a bit of a difficult pregnancy,” she continued. “I feel good though. I will say I’m probably being punished for talking so much about how great the first two went.

"I was like, ‘Oh yeah, pregnancy’s awesome!’ But now I get it. I get anyone that thinks it’s not so awesome, but very happy to be carrying this baby.”

Teigen and Legend first announced her pregnancy in the singer’s Wild music video, which was released in August.

The NHS says: “Bleeding during pregnancy is relatively common and doesn't always mean there's a problem – but it can be a dangerous sign.”
