Chrissy Teigen Apologizes for ”Tone-Deaf and Icky” Tweet About Her Mom’s AirPods

Reigning Twitter Queen and cooking genius Chrissy Teigen has come under some fire on Twitter for posting what her followers are saying is a super tone-deaf tweet about her mom—and unlike some celebs who aren’t that great about the whole ~apology thing~, she’s owning up to it.

The tweet in question was a joke about Chrissy’s mom Pepper not understanding that AirPods with cords are just regular headphones, but people felt like she was being super flippant about their wealth. “My mom treats her AirPods like they’re disposable,” Chrissy tweeted. “Buys a few a month. She says they would be easier to not lose if they had…a cord.”

Again, people didn’t react super well to this—and Chrissy was quick to apologize after checking her mentions. “Oh man, I haven’t checked my mentions for a bit and I didn’t realize how many people were super pissed off about this,” she wrote. “It was meant as a joke (and exaggeration) about how my mom doesn’t realize AirPods are with a cord are headphones, but it came across as super tone-deaf and icky.”

She continued, “I promise I will not always say the right thing in the right way, but I also promise I hate disappointing or pissing you guys off. I’m sorry and I will do better to not be such an asshole.”

She also responded to a few followers directly:
