Chrissy Teigen scolded for sharing too much about the secretive Inauguration night performance

Chrissy Teigen is a woman who is extremely online, and we love her for that. On January 19, 2021, the night before the Biden-Harris Inauguration, Teigen live-tweeted and Instagrammed her family’s trip to D.C. where her husband John Legend is set to perform. Only problem was, Legend’s Inauguration performance was supposed to be a surprise and Teigen got busted for, uh, giving fans a very large peek behind the D.C. curtain.

So we knew that John Legend was going to be a part of the Inauguration Day festivities in some capacity, but the U.S. government didn’t plan on Teigen showing video footage from the actual soundcheck on Tuesday night. In her social media videos, Teigen showed her husband rehearsing with some kind of official D.C. band at the National Mall with the illuminated Washington Monument in the backdrop. It was really quite breathtaking to behold and I can’t wait to see the final performance — too bad we weren’t supposed to see any of it!

“I got in trouble for showing too much, so act surprised tomorrow and don’t tell your friends,” a guilty Teigen told her followers with a laugh.

Prior to Teigen’s videos, all we knew about this supposed performance was that Tom Hanks was hosting an event called “Celebrating America” on Wednesday evening and that Legend was one of many “celebrity appearances.” The previously-top-secret Inauguration night bash will include performances by Bruce Springsteen, Justin Timberlake, and Lin-Manuel Miranda, to name a few and for all we knew, it could have been a virtual event. Certainly nobody knew it was taking place at the National Mall with backing instrumentals by a full band, but thanks to Teigen — well, we all do now!

Teigen also roamed around and took photos with the National Guard like an Inauguration Day tourist, and never change, Chrissy.

Earlier in the day, Lady Gaga, Garth Brooks, and J.Lo performed at the Capitol building and later today, in addition to the Hanks-hosted affair, a virtual “Parade Across America” is set to air at 3:15 p.m. EST via livestream. This unprecedented event will feature performances across the country, including drumline performances from Biden and Harris’ alma matters, Howard University and The University of Delaware, dance performances, a bit by Jon Stewart, appearances by Olympic athletes, and performances by Earth, Wind & Fire, New Radicals, and Andra Day.

Or, you can just tune in to Teigen’s Instagram feed for sneak peeks at all the Inauguration festivities before they even happen. Happy Inauguration Day, America!
