Chris Hemsworth has played Thor, God of Thunder, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for more than ten years across eight movies, both as a leading man in solo adventures and as part of an ensemble cast in the Avengers films. So it stands to reason that as the MCU heads into its fifth phase of interconnected stories and certain corners of the fandom begin to feel overwhelmed by the sheer volume of content, Hemsworth would feel similarly.

In a recent interview with British GQ, Hemsworth reflected on the flak received by his most recent superhero movie Thor: Love and Thunder—"I cringe and laugh equally at it"—and admitted that even he struggles with the ever-growing stakes of each subsequent MCU installment.

"That’s the trick: you have to separate all those stories," he said. "The moment it’s like... 'Your world is in danger, the entire universe!' It's like, 'Yeah, so [it] was the last 24 films.' It has to become a bit more personal and grounded."

Hemsworth added that while he remains open to reprising the role of Thor in future if the story and creative direction are right, he is currently enjoying working on different projects. In addition to Extraction 2, which drops soon on Netflix, that includes Furiosa. The upcoming Mad Max: Fury Road prequel gave him the opportunity to work with director George Miller, whom Hemsworth credits with reinvigorating his passion after experiencing burnout.

"I came into that film exhausted," he said. "I thought, 'How am I going to get through this?' Week one of rehearsals with [Miller], all of a sudden it was this reigniting of my creative energy... It made me think, the work isn’t what’s exhausting, it’s what kind of work it is, and how invested I am in it and if it is challenging in the right ways."
