Chipotle Is Raising Its Prices—Here's What You Should Know

It's always comes as a little bit of a shock when your typical order from a restaurant chain comes out more expensive than you remember. For Chipotle customers who may have noticed an increase in price at their restaurants recently, the company said there's a good reason behind the change.

A spokesperson for Chipotle said of the price adjustment: "We instituted a 3.5 to four percent menu price increase last week to help off-set the wage increase that Chipotle is now offering its employees." Those wage increases include a competitive hourly rate for crew members between $11 and $18 per hour and the ability for crew members to rise to the position of Restaurateur, the highest General Manager position, in as little as three and a half years.

The brand also introduced a bonus opportunity for referrals with $200 employee referral bonuses for crew members and $750 referral bonuses for Apprentices or General Managers. These changes were made to help Chipotle workers get ready for the upcoming peak season and to attract new employees to the 200 new restaurants opening this year.

As mask mandates are lifted and COVID-19 safety restrictions are being updated, restaurants that were closed for indoor dining last summer are predicting an incredibly busy summer.

In an announcement posted on the Chipotle website, the Chief Diversity, Inclusion, and People Officer Marissa Andrada said:

Chipotle is committed to providing industry-leading benefits and accelerated growth opportunities, and we hope to attract even more talent by showcasing the potential income that can be achieved in a few short years. We're looking for people who are authentic, passionate and want to help cultivate a better world through real food and real personal development.
