With its name taken from the French word for happiness, Bonheur doesn't disappoint. The newly opened ice cream and pie parlor in Easton, Maryland, is equal parts chic, cheerful, and, most of all, delicious. Designed by Shaun Jackson and Paul Prager from Bluepoint Hospitality Group, Bonheur’s playful interior is a twist on traditional French influences with its intricate floor tiling around the counter, mid-century furniture choices, and bold colors.
Gracie, the tony family-owned wall-covering studio and whose hand-painted pieces can be found in rooms of the White House, has been in the business for more than 100 years, and is no stranger to meticulous construction. (This should come as no surprise as their designs have long been sought after by top designers, including Suzanne Rheinstein, and Ellie Cullman, and Mark D. Sikes.) For Bonheur, they created individual three-foot panels which each took 70 hours to complete and were assembled on site.
When you are finished drooling over the lavish floral walls and periwinkle wainscoting, step towards the counter and order one of Bonheur's homemade ice creams in 12 seasonally rotating flavors, including roasted strawberry, raspberry ripple, and coconut almond chocolate chunk. Or if you'd like to avoid the sticky drips, you can't go wrong with a slice of pie in either lemon meringue, apple streusel, or coconut custard. With desserts as beautiful as the décor, Easton, Maryland, should immediately become an East Coast must-visit destination for Francophiles, design aficionados, and sugar fiends everywhere.
