Netflix’s Deaf U is finally here. The hit reality show centers around a group of friends at Gallaudet University, one of the oldest higher education institutions for the deaf and hard of hearing. The series combines all of the drama of college, plus the culture and diversity of the deaf community.
And if you binged watched the series in day (hi, it me!), chances are you've already been stalking the cast’s social media to find out what they've been up to since the show ended. Are Renate and her girlfriend still together? Did Cheyanna ever find her place at Gallaudet? And what about Alexa—will she finally get the love she deserves?
Well, Women’s Health reached out to find out what each of the cast members is up to now. Here’s everything you need to know about your favorite Deaf U stars:
Renate graduated from Gallaudet with a degree in government and international studies. Her post-grad plans? Travel a lot and explore the world. But that changed after the COVID-19 pandemic. She recently started an online graduate school program instead at Eastern Illinois University.
Soooo....guess what?! My original plan had been to travel, work a bit, explore myself & the world before going for graduate school. But then...COVID & quarantine happened. I chose to go with the flow and impulsively applied to online grad school. Here I am, starting online grad school at EIU in Mass Communication with Leadership option! I would have never seen this coming in January 2020. But as we all know, 2020 is full of surprises and life-changing events! Proud to bleed blue & white again. 💙🤍 #gopanthers #eiu

"Other than that, I've been riding out the pandemic with my girlfriend, Tayla, and working odd end jobs," she tells Women's Health. Renate made an appreciation post for Tayla in August sharing a series of adorable couples' photos. Awww!

As you know, Cheyanna dropped out of Gallaudet. And after filming, she opened up more about why on her Youtube channel, blaming bullying from other students that came from well-known deaf families or attended a prestigious deaf school instead of a mainstream one, like Cheyanna did. "I never really felt safe when I was at Gally," she said in her video.
Since filming this video, Cheyanna has reflected more on Instagram about her complicated experience at Gallaudet. And today, she's just focusing on being present. "Take one thing at a time," Cheyanna says. She's still enjoying social media and wants to use it to spread her love of fashion, photography, and "making my videos of a lifestyle I strive for."
Remember Rodney? The self-proclaimed "f*ckboy" of the group. Well, he's back at Gallaudet University this fall and says he has three more semesters left before he can graduate. Rodney doesn't have a public Instagram, though, so unfortunately you won't be able to see what he's up to this semester.
Since filming Deaf U, Daequan graduated from Gallaudet University. "Currently I am living in Indiana, working a hard labor job and saving money," Daequan says. He still dreams of becoming a football coach, but it's been placed on hold. COVID-19 has slowed down the process, he adds.
Alexa says that she's still in DC, working at Mozzeria DC, the first deaf-owned and deaf-run pizzeria restaurant in the area. But she's also looking for other opportunities as a social media influencer.
And as far as dating goes, it looks like Braxton is still in the picture. She posted a photo with him this summer at Grand Falls in Joplin, Missouri.
For those that don’t know— I am so fricking terrified of moving bodies of water... AKA rivers and ocean. So I wasn’t too happy when @b_greaaat told me to sit down on a mossy af rock (also white bathing suit, helloooo) but anywayyyy, I’m starting to appreciate these bodies of water. They’re fun & did you know flowing waters have negative ions that is supposed to help with our overall wellbeing? 🥺 So yeah, go dip your toes in a river or the sea 🌊♥️

Tessa graduated from Gallaudet with a Masters in Social Work in May 2020. She's living in North Florida now and studying for a license in social work.

Dalton was hands down the most chill member of the friend group, so it only makes sense that he doesn't have a public Instagram. He was also unavailable to provide a life update to Women's Health, but fingers crossed he's doing well.
