Check Out These Three New Colors of Elsa Peretti’s Bone Cuff
Italian designer Elsa Peretti’s iconic Bone cuff is a symbol of feminine empowerment and grace. It molds perfectly to the wrist and can stylishly be worn on the left, the right, or on each wrist at the same time. Originally inspired by drawings Peretti made as a girl during her visits to the Capuchin Crypt in Rome and Antonio Gaudí’s Casa Mila in Barcelona, the cuff was considered to be on the cutting edge of design at the time of its introduction 50 years ago, a classification that still applies today. Now, to commemorate its 50th anniversary, Tiffany & Co. is offering the cuff in three new vibrant colors—blue, red, and green, which are a nod to Peretti’s love of nature and just happen to be the same hues she uses throughout her home collection. So in addition to modern and innovative, you can add an entirely new adjective to describe the Bone Cuff: playful.
Peretti, who celebrated her 80th birthday on May 1, is well known in the industry for her use of organic forms and her expert craftsmanship. During her career as a model in the 1960s, she got to know a number of fashion designers and began creating jewelry for some of them, first and foremost Halston. At the time, silver was considered common, but her jewelry designs turned it into a newly covetable material, and she began to push the envelope even more by adding jade, rattan, and lacquer to her pieces. Peretti joined Tiffany & Co. in 1974 as its lead silver jewelry designer, and after continued success in that realm, she turned to the home, creating such pieces as her signature Thumbprint collection of bowls and barware using colorful enamel.
