Charlize Theron Says Goodbye to Her Bowl Cut With a Shorter, Blonder Hairstyle

There isn't a single hair transformation where Charlize Theron hasn't looked gorgeous. If I told you that she'd had her natural hair removed so she could transplant AstroTurf in its place, you wouldn't need to see pictures to know in your heart that she'd be able to pull it off like the eternal stunner she is. Well, her latest hairstyle switch may not be that dramatic, but it's still a huge change from the bowl cut she's been sporting for the last couple of months.

In case you missed it, Theron surprised everyone in September when she revealed that stylist Adir Abergel and colorist Shannon Gallacher had transformed her dark brown bob into a bowl cut with "wheaty blonde" highlights with a dark undercut and roots. But even though Theron completely changed the bowl cut's reputation from the haircut every little boy has in their first-grade school photo to an incredibly chic style for grown-ass A-listers, it seems she has grown a bit tired of it, looking to Abergel for the latest change.

"Always love changing up this humans hair. New color. Swept back. New vibe," Abergel wrote in the caption of a photo he posted to Instagram on Friday, the night Theron was being honored at the American Cinematheque Awards in Beverly Hills. We see the "new color" Abergel refers to is a bright yet soft, buttery blonde — a big step away from the high-contrast bronde she'd been wearing with the bowl cut. And speaking of the bowl cut, it's hardly recognizable as a pushed-back, just-messy-enough look that suggests it's no longer all one length.

In his Instagram stories, Abergel notes that he created the look with the help of the Restorative Treatment Mask (an Allure editor favorite) and Volumizing Primer from Virtue Labs, where he's the creative director.

This isn't the first time Theron has switched things up with her bowl cut. In October, she styled it slickly to the side, suggesting the look is far more versatile than anyone imaged. But this change is a bit more considerable, signaling that the bowl cut may be on its way out with the completion of her filming a new Fast & Furious movie. Either way, we can't wait to see how she styles it next.
