  • Charli shared that some of her followers made negative comments about her appearance.

Charli D'Amelio is truly over the amount of hate that she gets online, so much so that she seriously considered quitting social media altogether a year ago. (Like...can you imagine a world without Charli's TikTok videos? Didn't think so.) During an Instagram Live, Charli spoke directly to her haters and jumped right in, saying, "This is dedicated to the boys that like to comment on my appearance."

As Charli applied her makeup, she explained that she often receives critique of her appearance, with the most prevalent negative comment being that she "looked better a year ago."

"I guess it's because I dye my hair," she said. "That's really the only thing that has changed about me except for the fact that I'm a lot more confident, which took me awhile. So, I'm not going to just let people say that about me. I stayed quiet about a lot of things and, honestly, it's extremely frustrating being a teenager and just having to let millions and millions of people get to talk about the way I look."

And despite the fact that Charli is now one of TikTok's most famous stars, she said that it wasn't always like that in the beginning. At first, Charli said people didn't seem to like her and it did a number on her self-confidence. "Honestly, at that time, I didn't like myself. So I just believed everything everyone said. And then I realized throughout all of this, people will say anything to get likes," she continued.

The massive influx of negative comments became so bad for Charli that she thought about walking away from her platform on several occasions. "I almost did a bunch of times, but luckily I have a very good support group around me and they made me want to continue," she said.

Wrapping up her video, Charli explained that she usually isn't a fan on bringing "attention to the negativity that is social media," but she had enough. "Keep your rude thoughts to yourself and I understand it's an opinion. Then keep it to yourself. If you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all."
