The highly anticipated summer movie musical In The Heights won’t premiere until June 11, but excitement around the big-screen adaptation of the beloved Broadway musical by Lin-Manuel Miranda and Quiara Alegría Hudes is already at a fever pitch. Luckily, there’s more for fans to do than just sit around and wait for the film.
Beginning May 11, Charitybuzz is presenting #WInTheHeights, an online auction chock full of incredible prizes related to the film with proceeds supporting the Northern Manhattan Arts Alliance, a New York City-based non-profit that cultivates and supports artists and arts organizations in Upper Manhattan.
Experiences up for auction include a trip to New York City and tickets to the film’s Tribeca Film Festival premiere, where you’ll meet Miranda; a tour of Washington Heights with Lin-Manuel’s father, Luis A. Miranda; private virtual meet and greets with the film’s cast and creators; advance screening access; signed memorabilia; and much more.
In The Heights opened on Broadway in 2008 and was nominated for 13 Tony Awards; it won four, including Best Musical. The movie version, directed by Jon M. Chu (Crazy Rich Asians), brings the story of a Washington Heights bodega owner and the unforgettable group of friends and family who surround him to the big screen—and the small one; when the film premieres, it’ll screen in theaters but also on HBO Max. The colorful, energetic film stars Anthony Ramos, Corey Hawkins, Leslie Grace, Melissa Barrera, Jimmy Smits, Daphne Rubin-Vega, and more.
