Last night’s episode of Big Little Lies left us with several burning questions, and while we could easily go on and on about how much we hate Mary Louise (no offense, Meryl Streep), this brand-new teaser has us wondering what’s next for the Monterey Five.
After season two, episode six aired on HBO, the network dropped a trailer detailing what’s to come in next week’s finale, including the conclusion of Celeste’s (Nicole Kidman) gruesome custody battle.
The trailer opens on Celeste having a terrifying realization: Are the Monterey Five—herself, Madeline (Reese Witherspoon), Jane (Shailene Woodley), Renata (Laura Dern) and Bonnie (Zoë Kravitz)—really friends? Or do they simply share a common secret?
“The Monterey Five, whatever we call ourselves…the lie is the friendship,” Celeste says.
The teaser goes on to show a montage of scenes featuring the housewives struggling to keep their composure. While Bonnie appears to be taking it the hardest, we can’t stop thinking about the rest of Celeste’s trial, where she not only calls a witness to the stand, but she also demands that she do the questioning. (She’s an attorney, after all.)
Although the trailer didn’t give away the witness’s identity, there are a few conspiracy theories. While it could easily be one of the Monterey Five, we wouldn’t be surprised if Celeste brings in someone who really knows Perry—like a sibling, perhaps?
Either way, we just hope Celeste has something good up her sleeve. The season two finale of Big Little Lies will air on Sunday, July 21, at 9 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT on HBO.
