When you’re the child of a celebrity, an ordinary birthday party just won’t cut it. And while this isn’t true for every star, there are a handful of famous parents who take birthday party planning for their children to the next level with celebrations that include carnival rides, haunted houses, and faux film sets. And we’ll admit it: after growing up playing Pin the Tail on the Donkey and Musical Chairs at our own birthday parties, we’re just a tad jealous of these celebrity kids.
For example, Jessica Simpson and Eric Johnson once went to great lengths to give daughter Maxwell a big circus-like celebration, the Kardashian and Jenner families are known for throwing their kids extra AF birthday parties while parents like Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith and Beyoncé and Jay-Z spared no expense when it came to planning their children’s birthday events.
So what makes an extravagant kid birthday party? Aside from the price tags — Cardi B and Offset reportedly spent $400,000 on daughter Kulture’s first birthday party — it’s all about ambiance. The Kardashian-Jenners often turn to their favorite party planner, Mindy Weiss, who has known Kris Jenner for 40 years and even planned Kim Kardashian’s first birthday party!

The couple rented out a huge venue in New York City to host the rainbow-themed bash, which included a Build-a-Bear workshop. For the glitzy affair, Cardi and Kulture even color-coordinated their Moschino outfits.
Jason Derulo
For his son Jason King’s second birthday, Jason Derulo went all out and spent $30,000 on a Baby Shark-themed extravaganza topped with a huge bounce house, ball pit, playground, and more!
Patrick & Brittany Mahomes
When their daughter Sterling turned two, two-time Super Bowl champion Patrick Mahomes and his wife Brittany threw the adorable tot a donut-themed birthday bash. Documented in a short video on the couple’s Instagram accounts, the party included a build-your-own donut bar, a coffee station, slides, ball pits, and more. For her third birthday, they went all out with a tea party-themed party, and for her baby brother Bronze Mahomes’ first birthday, they had a sports extravaganza.
Kim Kardashian
You know every member of the Kar-Jenner family is going to throw an outrageously cool (albeit ridiculous) party for their kid every year, right?! We’ll be here for days if we go through them all, but how could we not talk about North West’s 9th birthday in 2022? A private jet flew North and her friends to “Camp North,” a secret getaway in the Wyoming wilderness where they went zip-lining, tubing, and more.
Kim Kardashian West & Kanye West
Saint West, born Dec. 2015, rang in his fourth birthday with a Jurassic Park-themed birthday party thrown by parents Kim Kardashian and Kanye West. From the looks of Kardashian’s Instagram account, where she posted photos and videos of the event, no details were spared.
Guests who entered the jungle-themed bash were greeted by a fog machine blowing smoke in their path, a large red dinosaur sculpture, matching dinosaur balloons, and a life-sized dino nest (yes, it included fake dinosaur eggs!), while a bounce house, a giant sandbox, and stations offering dinosaur-themed jewelry, treats, and face paints lined the property.
David Beckham & Victoria Beckham
Perhaps the most famous of the Beckham kid birthdays was the one that David and Victoria Beckham didn’t totally plan. For their daughter Harper’s sixth birthday, they had the happiest of accidents. Their princess-obsessed little girl got to have tea at Buckingham Palace with a few members of the royal family.
That said, the legendary soccer player and the fashion designer have been known to go all out for Harper and their kids Cruz, Romeo, and Brooklyn. For Harper’s first birthday, they reportedly spent over $100 thousand on a pink-themed party complete with pink rabbits and pony rides.
Katie Holmes & Tom Cruise
Suri Cruise is one lucky kid. For her second birthday, they spent $100 thousand — some of which went toward Wolfgang Puck catering and some went toward filling their home with butterflies (as one does…). We’re probably the most jealous of her 13th birthday, though, when she and her friends got to celebrate in Paris.
Beyoncé & Jay-Z
Blue Ivy, born in January 2012, had plenty to be happy about on her seventh birthday, which her parents Beyoncé and Jay-Z celebrated with a rose-gold party. Photos on Beyonce’s official site showed Blue Ivy strutting down a runway created just for her. The party also included vanity stations, color-coordinated balloons, confetti, a DJ booth, and traditional party games.
Kylie Jenner & Travis Scott
Who can forget the birthday party that Kylie Jenner and Travis Scott threw for daughter Stormi’s second birthday? Party rooms were decorated in the likeness of the films Trolls and Frozen, and there were carnival rides, claw machines, a catered menu, and a larger-than-life Stormi mascot.
Jessica Simpson & Eric Johnson
In 2018, when Jessica Simpson and Eric Johnson’s daughter Maxwell turned six, they threw her a bash they called “Maxwell’s Over The Top Big Top,” depicted in photos that Simpson shared on Instagram.
The party was inspired by the 2017 film The Greatest Showman, so naturally, Max was dressed as a trapeze artist. In attendance were acrobats, unicyclists, jugglers, and a circus troupe — including but not limited to a bearded lady.
Will Smith & Jada Pinkett
In 2019, when Willow Smith turned 19, parents Will and Jada Pinkett Smith did not hold back when it came to planning her birthday party. Since Willow was born on Halloween, the parents looked to the spooky holiday for inspiration. Will documented the entire celebration in a YouTube video, walking fans through a terrifying haunted house. According to People, Smith hired Creep LA, a performing arts company, to stage the event they called “Willoween.”
Tristan Thompson & Khloé Kardashian
In April 2018, Khloé Kardashian and Tristan Thompson threw their daughter True the most lavish birthday party when she turned one. For the whimsical and dreamy celebration, Kardashian enlisted the help of iconic party planner, Mindy Weiss. True and her guests enjoyed pony rides (with horses that sported colorful manes and unicorn horns), cotton candy, and a decadent dessert spread.
However, Kardashian insisted that guests make a generous donation instead of bringing gifts. “We did not want presents for Miss True,” she wrote on Instagram. “We asked that everybody bring a gift for the Children’s Hospital of L.A.”
Matt Rutler & Christina Aguilera
In 2016, Christina Aguilera and Matt Rutler celebrated their daughter Summer Rain’s second birthday with a Super Mario Bros-themed party. According to photos, an entire portion of the couple’s backyard was converted into “Summer’s Play Zone” with a huge balloon display that spelled out her name and featured toddler-approved activities, like a tunnel, a water table, and a puppet theater. Aguilera and Summer dressed in matching Mario outfits, which were perfect for riding a huge Mario-inspired bounce house slide.
