Celebrities Still Love ‘Clueless,’ and We Love Them for Loving It

Willow Smith is the latest celebrity to show her admiration for the fashion in the ’90s cult classic Clueless. We know what you’re thinking: Will Smith’s daughter wasn’t even alive when the movie came out in 1995. However, it’s clear that the film’s genius is truly timeless and has been passed down to the younger generation.

Clueless influenced the way we talked, behaved, and, of course, dressed. Come on — so many of us rushed to the stores to scoop up a yellow plaid skirt after seeing that iconic opening scene. The sartorial influence still exists, and the celeb set is gobbling it all up.

Smith, 15, blessed us with a quick slay for CR Fashion Book’s ninth issue in a look Cher Horowitz would most certainly approve of: that signature yellow plaid ensemble. Stylist Carine Roitfeld updated the outfit with a matching yellow head wrap, mismatched knee-high socks from Stance, and a pair of black and white flatform creepers (a modern twist on the characters’ beloved platforms) by Rivithead. The suit itself is from Halloween costume manufacturer Yandy.

Willow’s Cher-tastic moment comes on the heels of Ariel Winter’s mean girls-themed spread with Cosmopolitan earlier this year. “Given her vocal opposition to bullies and trolls — bitches, if you will — Cosmopolitan.com thought it would be fun to have her take on five of the most iconic bitches in the history of TV and film,” the magazine wrote. Along with queen bees like Regina George from Mean Girls and Heather Chandler from Heathers, Clueless’s Amber was an obvious choice.

For the photo shoot, Winter was outfitted in the look Amber rocked when she said the famous line, “My plastic surgeon doesn’t want me doing any activity where balls fly at my nose.” Classic Amber. The ensemble included a customized white high-neck crop top and matching high-waisted shorts, a black cropped hoodie, and white over-the-knee socks, all from American Apparel. It should be noted that the Modern Family actress was also born after the film came out. What-ever.

Before that, Iggy Azalea and Charli XCX channeled Clueless in the “Fancy” music video. They re-created all the classic scenes, from the Haiti debate to the freeway drive to the party in the Valley, looking just like Cher and her cronies from the hats down to the feathered pens.

In 2014, actress Ashley Madekwe and a friend dressed up as Cher and Dionne for Halloween in head-to-toe plaid with old-school cellphones and that famous black and white.

So for anyone who thinks this movie is so ’90s passé, we say, as if! Clueless clearly isn’t going anywhere, and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
