Celebrities, notable figures react to Karl Lagerfeld's death

Celebrities, fans and fashion designers from around the world are mourning the loss of Karl Lagerfeld. It was announced on Tuesday morning that the legendary icon and Chanel designer passed away at the age of 85 after being rushed to the hospital in Paris.

A representative of Chanel confirmed the sad news to ET Online.

“It is with deep sadness that the House of Chanel announces the passing of Karl Lagerfeld, the Creative Director for the Chanel Fashion House since 1983," they said. "An extraordinary individual, Karl Lagerfeld, reinvented the brand’s codes created by Gabrielle Chanel.”

The news was also confirmed on Karl Lagerfeld's Instagram.

Shortly after news of his death broke, tributes began pouring in from industry leaders, celebrities and fans from around the world.

"Nothing feels right today..at a loss for words and so heartbroken by the loss of Karl. His humor, wit , love and passion for fashion will live on forever," wrote Bella Hadid on Instagram.

Tweeted Ryan Seacrest, "A true fashion maestro and visionary who inspired many."

Others were quick to write about his inspiration and mark on the fashion world. Wrote Donatella Versace, "We will never forget your incredible talent and endless inspiration. We were always learning from you."

Echoed Virgil Abloh, "This image alone was enough to make my generation dream...". First lady Melania Trump also expressed her condolences for the designer's passing on Twitter.

"Today the world lost a creative genius. We will miss you Karl!" she wrote.
