Following the sad news that Queen Elizabeth II has died at the age of 96, celebrities and politicians have been taking to social media to pay tribute.
Three months after celebrating her Platinum Jubilee in June this year, marking the 70th anniversary of her accession to the throne, Her Majesty has passed away. Mourners across the country and worldwide have been sharing their condolences for the Royal family online.
Sir David Attenborough paid his respects to Queen Elizabeth II in an interview with ITV News on Friday morning [9 September], saying, "If there was something funny she laughed in a genuine way... she wasn’t putting it on and that made it very easy.”
He continued: “She was an expert at getting people to relax. When you met her you were well aware that you were in the presence of someone who was extremely important to our society and yet she made it seem that you were meeting another human being with exactly the same conditions that all human beings have.”
Sir David also said his personal bond with the Queen was “a great privilege” and something he was “delighted” to have in his life.
As Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby wrote, "With profound sadness, I join the nation, the Commonwealth and the world in mourning the death of Her Late Majesty The Queen."

Details about The Queen’s state funeral will be announced in due course, with the ceremony expected to take place at Westminster Abbey. Her Majesty will be laid to rest alongside husband of 73 years, Prince Philip, who died aged 99 in April.
The Queen leaves behind four children: Charles, Princess Anne, Prince Andrew and Prince Edward, as well as eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. Following Her Majesty's passing, Charles has now become King, and goes by the regal title King Charles III. Details around the timing of his coronation have not been confirmed.
Our thoughts are with Queen Elizabeth II's family at this time.
