We all know Cash Warren as Jessica Alba’s handsome hubby, but what might not be on your radar is his rad new sock line, Pair of Thieves, that he co-founded and heads up marketing for. Warren is often rocking matching socks with his two daughters, Honor and Haven — and of course, Alba is also a loyal fan. (The Dad + Kid sets are particularly cute and make for a great Father’s Day gift.) I talked to Warren about his ideal Father’s Day, and his love for a good SPF.

Listen to the interview with Cash Warren and Yahoo Beauty.

Tara Tersigni: So Pair of Thieves, give me the back-story on it?

Cash Warren: The back-story, so one of my co-founders named Alan Stuart and I went to middle school and high school together. We have known each other since we were probably 13 years old and we’ve always kind of been obsessed with socks so even dating back to then we would “sock check” each other like, “What socks are you wearing today?” and kind of always prided ourselves in having cool socks even when we were playing sports. We wanted to wear Argyles when we were playing basketball and doing funky different stuff and that passion continued. When we linked up a couple years ago, we wanted to find something to do together and so we thought, “Why don’t we go back and do a sock line together?” He went to UCLA with our other co-founder, David Ehrenberg, and the three of us got together and decided to build Pair of Thieves.

Cool! Don’t you feel like socks are the new ties?

They are! People, like guys who live in Europe, you’ve seen it on for a long time, especially in London and in the UK where men have been really adventurous with their socks, because we’re given such boring outfits most of the time to wear.  It’s one of the few areas where you can show some personality, so it’s nice to see that trend sweeping America.

Yes, my husband is European and he is a sock fanatic.

Ah, I can’t wait to have him try ours!

Yeah, he will be all over it don’t worry. I’ll have him be a model for you guys.

Yes, please.

I’m always like “Clean your socks out, man! You have 300 pairs!” You get to work and hang with your friends slash business partners and it sounds like a really great relationship.

I like working with people that I know and trust who also do great work and so we make a great team.

And are you three the thieves?

We are! We are the thieves. You know the name kind of came from, like one of your socks always goes missing and who steals that sock? And so the idea was to have a playful name. We pride ourselves on having great product and delivering value, but at the same time we don’t want to take ourselves too seriously and we want to have fun with it. We took the California bear and put this Robin Hood mask on him, which is just playful and fun.

Yeah I saw that it is very cute and clever!

Thank you.

I noticed you guys have a dad’s gift set of socks?

Yeah! We launched a Dad kit, because the three of us are all dads and so there are always these great things for moms to do with their kids, those matching mom and daughter outfits, and stuff like that. There was never anything for a dad and his daughter or a dad and his son, so we went after creating a matching pair of socks. It’s been so well received. We love it. It’s a great Father’s Day gift and it’s something the kids don’t really understand it as much yet, but the dad will definitely have a big smile on their face.

That’s really cute so is that, before you had your own line obviously, what were you always hoping for Father’s Day?

You know on Father’s Day I just want to be told that, “I’m so great” and “I’m the best person.” Just wake up and be showered with compliments all day long.

That sounds like a good day to me.

Right?

I mean do you get that?

Everyday is that for everyone else in my household, so if I get one day of just being told that I am great then I’m happy.

Cause it’s all girls right?

Yes.

You have two girls and Jessica, so wow you are outnumbered.

And even my dogs are girls.

Oh!

I’m totally outnumbered! I wouldn’t have it any other way though.

Right, of course. What are you actually going to get for Father’s Day or what do you want? Other than the compliments…

Other than the compliments, I don’t know. I think normally they cook me breakfast which would be great. I’m normally the one that cooks breakfast on the weekend so that would be a nice thing to have. A drawing of some handmade something from my kids I always cherish and adore, so maybe they can make me a nice picture with something nice written on it would be awesome.

Do you make them do anything super masculine like let’s go…

Let’s go watch dad play golf? Yeah [laughs] I haven’t yet, but I think that’s a good idea maybe one year it will be all about, yeah let’s go spend five hours watching me play golf.

You should wear matching socks and go play golf.

I love that. That would be fantastic, maybe I will. I think we’re going to be out of town together this year, but next time we are in LA for sure.

Do your little girls wear the socks?

Yeah absolutely! We say “Dad’s Kid” because we want it to be gender neutral. Jessica actually wears the socks all the time as well. I just think it’s so cute when I match with my little girls.

So, what are you really getting for Father’s Day? I feel like cologne is a popular gift or some kind of shaving situation?

Yes, you know I run through MACH3 razors like it’s my job. I don’t know what they do to those things but you know you don’t get a lot uses out of them, so I like MACH3 replacement blades. Is that pretty nerdy?

What else are you hoping for?

Like gift wise? In my household Father’s Day isn’t really a gift holiday, like you go out and you get a gift. It’s more of, I guess, sentimental. I need to switch that this year though; I should start asking for stuff. I could use new jeans, some new dress shirts.

I’m going to have to get this interview up ASAP so that there’s time for shopping.

ASAP — so that the wife sees it. Also, sweaters now that we’re going into summer some light sweaters.

Sweaters? You’re in LA in the summer, come on!

Summer sweaters for nighttime, like when you go out to dinner you want to look presentable.

Ok, well we can go back to grooming products a little bit then… You’re clean-shaven most of the time. How do you manage your day-to-day grooming habits?

My day-to-day grooming habits, I take a couple of showers a day, even though, well not now because we are in a draught, but normally in life, I would take a couple showers a day. I am loosing my hair rapidly up top there so I have a hair growth stimulant shampoo kind of thing. Then I shave you know maybe every three days or so. I don’t mind having a little bit of stubble. Jessica has all these different creams and face washes that she likes to experiment with on my face and so I let her do that.

I’ve talked to a lot of guys now, even some NFL players that kind of saunter over to the women’s side of the beauty cabinet and start to play with moisturizers and serums.

Yeah!

You “guys” seem to be concerned about anti-aging these days.

Absolutely! We are very concerned. I have a SPF face cream!

Do you have a barber in LA? Have you been loyal to someone or do you switch around?

You know I am because my hair is pretty short. I go to this place called Floyd’s, which is basically Supercuts.

Yeah, I know Floyd’s.

I go to whichever Floyd’s is closest to where I am the moment I realize I need a haircut. I think it is kind of hard to mess up a dudes hair, if it does get messed up it grows out quickly.

Do the girls ever call you out on anything?

You know, Honor is really good at recognizing when I do get a haircut, which I appreciate. Nobody else in my family notices anything.

[Laughs] I’m sure that is not true!

[Laughs] They do, they do compliment me on my socks a lot, which makes me smile.

When you’re wearing your cool socks that you design do you feel more confident? Is that like your version of how a girl would feel with a little lipstick on?

They do! And they’re really comfortable. We’ve layered in all these performance attributes to them so they’re the most comfortable dress sock out there and then they also have really rad designs, so I do feel good when I wear them. I feel like I could go for a run or I could go to business meeting and I’m comfortable in both situations.

Oh! How long have you been doing this? Sorry forgot to ask that.

We started the company a couple years ago we went into stores in April of last year, so we’re just over a year old.

Just over a year, congratulations!

Thank you. We’re in Target stores nationwide. We’re expanding to little kids in the fall in Target nationwide as well and so you can go to any local Target and buy socks!

Ok awesome!

I appreciate it thank you!
