A Case for Incorporating Your Baby Hairs Into Your Makeup

The key to sleek baby hairs is a good edge control gel, a brush, and taking a deep breath before styling them. While a simple swoop is all some folks can handle, others prefer to lean a little further into their creativity and create mini works of art. Case in point: Dee, known as @deemakeupart, who used her baby hairs in a colorful makeup look.

On August 3, the 19-year-old influencer shared two selfies of her completed work with her Instagram fans and the caption, "Ever just trace around your edges? lol." To accent her makeup, she styled two of her jumbo box braids into buns towards the front of her head with a burgundy-printed scarf wrapped around the rest. She brushed her baby hairs with a spooley and locked them in place with Style Factor's Edge Booster Pomade

She used her edges to guide her makeup application, coloring in around her baby hairs using four different shades of the Depixym Cosmetic Emulsions cream-based pigments. To achieve the airbrushed effect, Dee started applying the colors with a small rounded flat brush and then diffused the edges using a medium-sized fluffy brush. (Try the MAC 239 Eye Shader Brush and Colourpop's Tapered Blending Brush for a similar effect.)

It's hard to tell where the artfully-blended makeup begins or ends. The bluish-green hues on her eyelids transition seamlessly into the green and teal shades, which she achieved using a combination of colors #0982, #0004, and #0046. Then, the colors blend into the blue, red, and white swirls on her forehead. The yellow pigment along her lower lash line adds a dash of brightness to pull the entire look together.

Maybe we will start to see more edgey (sorry, had to!) makeup like this. Until then, we will continue to be on the lookout to see more innovative ways people are styling their baby hairs.
