Cartier Tank Francaise: T+L's Editor-in-chief's Favorite Travel Watch

The right luxury watch will and should be with you for years to come. It should suit your style, even as your style changes over time, and should be able to travel with you wherever you go. Travel + Leisure’s editor-in-chief Jacqueline Gifford knows this to be true, having “been married to this watch longer than [she’s] been married to [her] husband.”

Cartier’s Tank Française, an icon in the world of luxury timepieces, is delicate enough to compliment any outfit without overpowering it and recognizable enough to be a subtle statement on its own. “I’ve had [mine] for 22 years,” Jacqueline recalls of her beloved timepiece. “I think what’s amazing about this watch is that it’s timeless, it goes with everything.”

Jacqueline’s own is the two toned Tank Française, with accents of both steel and gold. “I’m old school in that I love the idea of checking a watch for the time.”

A watch is an underrated accessory, one that should be synonymous with international travel. Jacqueline reveres the action of “manually changing the time when [she] land[s] in another country.” For her, “it’s a good reminder that [she’s] in a new place, which is sort of grounding in the chaos of the digital world.”

Jacqueline’s Tank Française been with her “to probably over 50 countries” – it’s tried and true when it comes to withstanding time, as it were, and an abundance of travel. Cartier’s Tank Française is the traveler’s perfect wristwatch.
