Carson Wentz teases matchup with Cowboys as 'probably' the biggest game of his career

The Philadelphia Eagles’ season is on the line in Week 16. A win against the rival Dallas Cowboys keeps Philadelphia’s playoff hopes alive. A loss eliminates the Eagles from playoff contention.

Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz knows what’s at stake. In fact, the 26-year-old Wentz agreed Sunday’s game is “probably” the biggest game of his career, according to NFL.com.

Asked if the matchup with the NFC East on the line is the biggest of his career, Wentz responded: "You could probably say that."

"I mean, it's definitely a big game. We know the situation" he said, via the team's official website. "We know what's going on. At the same time, we're treating it as another game and we're aware of everything. We're real excited and for one, I'm real excited that we're at home. I know these fans are going to show up and be loud. I can't wait until Sunday afternoon."

How can that be possible? Wentz has won a Super Bowl. There’s no way a Week 16 game against the Cowboys could be the biggest game of his career, right?

Actually, it might be. While Wentz has a Super Bowl ring, he’s never started a playoff game. Wentz tore his ACL during the team’s Week 14 win over the Los Angeles Rams in 2017. He missed the rest of the season and the playoffs, giving rise to Nick Foles becoming a cult hero in Philadelphia.

When Wentz’s career is over, he probably won’t look back on Week 16 of the 2019 season as the biggest game of his career. If he does, something has gone horribly wrong.

For now, though, Wentz is right. His start Sunday will be the closest thing to the playoffs he’s experienced since he was drafted in 2016.

It will remain that way until Wentz actually plays in the playoffs. A win on Sunday gets him much closer to making that a reality.
