Carrie Underwood and John Legend just delivered an early Christmas present to all of their fans!

The country superstar and Voice coach teamed up over the weekend to give a moving rendition of their new holiday song, "Hallelujah." While the track is featured on Carrie's Christmas album, this was the first time the pair sang it together live.

Well—sort of! Carrie and John's emotional duet was the final performance of the Global Citizen Prize 2020, which aired Saturday night on NBC. However, the awards special was filmed in a totally new way this year because of COVID-19.

"Want to know something cool? John and Carrie weren't even in the same city when this was filmed," the organization revealed on Instagram. "That's the magic of green screens!"

Although they were in different places, Carrie and John's entire performance was perfectly in sync. John sat at his piano and Carrie stood in front of a mic, both dressed in black to stand out against the festive winter background. Their virtual "stage" was complete with falling snowflakes, gold Christmas trees, and gorgeous shimmering lights.

The lyrics also felt extra meaningful after a difficult year.

"Ooh, let there be peace on earth / Let the lonely join together, let them know their worth," they sang. "Ooh, let the children know / There's a brighter day ahead, let's hold on to hope."

It's not the classic "Hallelujah" we're used to hearing, but it sure is special! ❤️
