Carrie Underwood details musical plans, gives health update, in letter to fans
It’s only Tuesday, but it has already been quite the week for Carrie Underwood fans.
On Sunday, April 8, the superstar posted a mysterious close-up photo of her eye, shedding glittery tears, to social media with a notification that a big surprise was coming on Wednesday. On Monday, she followed that up with another big surprise: an announcement that she’d be returning to the stage for the first time after being injured in November, at the April 15 Academy of Country Music Awards.
Now, on Tuesday morning, Underwood decided to reveal yet more about what she has up her sleeve. She posted a full-face shot of herself in the glittery eye makeup, with a URL directing fans to a lengthy letter detailing her upcoming new music, as well as a health update.

“I’ve been in the studio writing and singing a TON,” she told fans. “But I’ve also been able to be creative in a way that I’ve never been before, which has been very fulfilling and empowering.”
She explained that she has an album on the way and also cleared up the mystery of the glitter. “The first single is a song I love so much and can’t wait to share with you. It’s called ‘Cry Pretty,'” she wrote. “The title refers to when emotions take over and you just can’t hold them back. It really speaks to a lot of things that have happened in the past year and I hope when you hear it, you can relate those feelings to those times in your life. It’s emotional. It’s real. And it ROCKS!”
Underwood reminded fans the song will be available to hear Wednesday, as well as performed live for the ACM Awards broadcast.
She additionally addressed how she’s feeling physically: “I’m doing pretty darn good these days! My wrist is almost back to normal, about 90% there … and the docs say that last 10% will come in time. And my face has been healing pretty nicely as well. I definitely feel more like myself than I have in a while.”
Underwood added that her period of “forced relaxation” allowed her some quality family time with husband Mike Fisher and son Isaiah. “Sometimes I think things happen in order to make us slow down,” she said.
Underwood’s last album was 2015’s platinum-selling Storyteller.
