Who is Carrie Johnson and how long has she been with Boris?

The former PM's wife has given birth to their third child together.

Carrie Johnson has given birth to her and Boris Johnson's third child together. The 35-year-old shared a picture of her holding the pair's newborn son to her Instagram page.

"A week of Frankie," she captioned the image. "Welcome to the world Frank Alfred Odysseus Johnson born 5th July at 9.15am. (Can you guess which name my husband chose?!)

"Am loving every minute of the sleepy baby bubble. Seeing my older two embrace their new brother with such joy and excitement has been the most wonderful thing to see. We are all very smitten.

"Thank you so much to the incredible NHS maternity team at UCLH. They really are the most amazing, caring people. I feel such immense gratitude."

Carrie shared several pictures of the newborn, including a picture of her older son Wilfred, three, doting on his baby brother.

Carrie Johnson, neé Symonds, is a PR executive who married Boris, 59, during a small ceremony in Westminster in July 2021.

The couple have two other children together: son, Wilfred and daughter, Romy, one.

Her career has spanned politics, media and conservation and she was thrust into the spotlight while married to the leader of the country during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Who is Carrie Johnson?

Carrie's first prominent role as the significant other of Boris was attending his Conservative party leadership campaign in June 2019.

She moved into a flat above Number 11 Downing Street with Boris as he took up his role as UK prime minister and became a familiar presence at his engagements.

How old is Carrie Johnson?

Carrie was born on 17 March 1988, making her 35 at the time of publication. Boris was born on 19 June 1964, meaning he's 24 years older than Carrie.

How long have Carrie and Boris Johnson been together?

It is unknown how long the two have been involved romantically. However, news of their relationship first surfaced in September 2018, the same month Boris and his wife Marina Wheeler announced they had separated "some time ago".

Carrie and Boris married in a small ceremony at Westminster Cathedral in May 2021.

Carrie and Boris Johnson's children

Carrie and Boris Johnson welcomed their first child together – son Wilfred Lawrie Nicholas Johnson – in April 2020. Their second child together, Romy Iris Charlotte Johnson, arrived in December 2021.

In May 2023, Carrie announced that the pair were expecting their third child together in "just a few weeks". Frank Alfred Odysseus Johnson arrived in July 2023.

Boris has five other children from two previous relationships, which means he now has a total of eight children.

Carrie Johnson's education

Carrie was privately educated at The Godolphin and Latymer School in West London.

She holds a first-class honours degree in theatre and history of art from the University of Warwick.

Carrie Johnson's working life

She formerly worked as the head of communications for the Conservative party, a role she left in August 2018, shortly before news of her and Johnson’s relationship was made public.

Ahead of this, she was the party's press officer and a special advisor to two secretaries of states including Sajid Javid.

After leaving the Conservative Campaign Headquarters, she worked as a PR for Bloomberg’s Vibrant Oceans programme. In her Twitter bio, she identifies as a "conservationist" and says she's director of comms at @AspinallCharity and is fighting plastic pollution with @Oceana.

Carrie Johnson's family

She is the daughter of Matthew Symonds, co-founder of The Independent, and Josephine McAffe – who worked as a lawyer for the publication.

After leaving Downing Street, recent reports suggest Carrie now lives with Boris and their three children in a family home on the border of Herne Hill and Dulwich Village in south east London.
