On the April 26th episode of CBS's The Talk, cohost Sheryl Underwood opened the show with some important news about Carrie Ann Inaba.

"Carrie Ann is taking a leave of absence from the show to focus on her wellbeing," Sheryl shared on camera. "She appreciates the support from all of her fans and her family right here at The Talk. Carrie Ann, we miss you and we look forward to having you back with us soon."

Carrie Ann's departure comes just two weeks after The Talk returned to CBS. The show had been on a month-long hiatus prompted by a controversy involving former cohost Sharon Osbourne. Sharon left the talk show program in late March after an on-air feud with Sheryl about racism.

How is Carrie Ann Inaba doing?

The same day Sheryl announced Carrie Ann's temporary departure, the Dancing With the Stars judge posted an Instagram video of herself explaining her decision.

"Hi everyone, I wanted to let you know personally that I have decided to take a leave of absence from The Talk to focus on my wellbeing. I know you guys understand, health is the most important thing," Carrie Ann said in the video. "So, I appreciate your support, I appreciate the love and support from The Talk family, and I hope to be back soon. Take care and I'll keep you updated. Thank you."

So far, Carrie Ann hasn't provided more details on the state of her health now. During a January Talk segment, Carrie Ann shared that she had been experiencing a few lingering effects of COVID-19 after testing positive back in December. It's unclear if her previous COVID bout is related to her current health situation.

For years, Carrie Ann has been open about her autoimmune diseases and health issues, including lupus and Sjögren’s syndrome, fibromyalgia, iron deficiency anemia, depression and anxiety. Prevention also reports that Carrie Ann deals with spinal stenosis, chronic fatigue syndrome and chronic pain.

In early March of this year, Carrie Ann took some time off after experiencing arm numbness and "sharp shooting pains." The Talk cohost later determined her symptoms were caused by her spinal stenosis acting up as a result of inflammation and a fibromyalgia flare.

In 2019, Carrie Ann told People that despite everything, she sees a positive side to it all.

"There’s a blessing in some of these health conditions because it gives you a greater awareness of your own health," she told the outlet. "It makes you take care of yourself and realize it’s a very important component of a healthy lifestyle is to see the doctor regularly, make sure that you’re keeping up all your checkups and getting the right tests."

A week before announcing her leave of absence, Carrie Ann took to Instagram to talk about the importance of listening to your body.

In part, Carrie Ann's post read:

"It takes a lot of work to get your health in balance with autoimmune disease. I have always needed systems that work. When the systems breakdown into chaos, the 'autoimmune-enabled' or as my doctor said to me recently, 'differently-abled' autoimmune body cannot stabilize. I like to think that it’s a gift when your body says no. That’s a sign. And it’s important to listen to your body. Many people are numb to their body’s whispers ... our society tells us to keep going through the pain, suffering and stress. I know, because as a dancer/athlete, you must dance through pain, and you must push yourself beyond normal human limits. I’ve done that: and I’m done with that. I no longer ignore my pain ..."

What's more, on her Instagram Stories, Carrie recently shared a short and powerful message: "Rest is love."
