Who Is Carol Sutton On "Outer Banks"?

Outer Banks season 2 is *finally* out and fans were happy to see the Pogues back in action. The latest season of Netflix's hit YA series is seriously intense between plot twists, an introduction to new characters, and, of course, the fate of the Pogues and the $400 million treasure.
In season 2, the Pogues find themselves revisiting certain parts of their lives. This leads Pope to pay a visit to his Me-Maw, who may help him and the rest of the gang with their search for the treasure. She plays Pope's Me-Maw
In OBX season 2, the Pogues' hunt for the $400 million treasure is still going strong. After finding a key in his great-grandmother's ceiling, Pope pays a visit to his Me-Maw's assisted living community to dive deeper into his family's history.
Me-Maw reveals that the key actually belonged to an ancestor and that it leads to much more than a hunt for treasure. She kept this knowledge a secret from the family for years, and to Pope's discovery, it's his chance to see what it's all about.

Carol is a critically-acclaimed actress
Although Me-Maw is one of Carol's most recent roles, she's best known for playing Nurse Pam in the 1989 film Steel Magnolias. She also played Eula in the 2004 biopic Ray. She was also very active in the New Orleans theater scene, according to tweets by Mayor LaToya Cantrell.

Why is there an entire episode dedicated to Carol Sutton?
The episode of Outer Banks that Carol appears in is dedicated to her because she passed away due to complications with COVID-19 in December 2020. The 76-year-old actress was halfway through filming season 2 of OBX when she was diagnosed and spent her final months at the Touro Infirmary in New Orleans.
