Cardi B's Coronavirus Speech Remix Just Became a Billboard Hit Song

While numerous celebs have been reacting to the effects of the coronavirus pandemic in our daily lives, it's Cardi B's journey — as seen on her Instagram — that might be the most interesting to watch. Never one to shy away from sharing her thoughts with her followers, Cardi has made headlines in recent weeks as she's tackled why it's important to take every safety precaution to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus.

Well, things got even more interesting earlier this week when one of Cardi's earliest posts about COVID-19 was turned into a remix called "Coronavirus" by DJ iMarkkeyz — that remix is now ranking high on the Billboard charts.

It began when iMarkkeyz turned Cardi's March 10 coronavirus video into a rap remix using two now-infamous soundbites of the rapper saying "Corona-VIRUS!" and "Shit is getting real" throughout the song. According to Billboard, DJ iMarkkeyz's "Coronavirus" remix featuring Cardi B has sold 3,000 copies in the week ending on March 19. Because of these sales, iMarkkeyz's track has debuted at #9 on Billboard's Rap Digital Song Sales chart and #13 on the R&B/Hip-Hop Digital Song Sales. On top of this major success, "Coronavirus" also scored 626,000 streams here in the U.S. during this same time period. In the midst of the "Coronavirus" remix's massive success, both iMarkkeyz and Cardi confirmed on Twitter they would donate any profits from the song to help any family affected by the global pandemic.

It's not just Cardi B's March 10 video on the coronavirus pandemic that has been making waves (for the right reasons). An IGTV video Cardi posted on March 25 has also been getting attention as the rap superstar put the heat on celebrities using their privilege to access COVID-19 test kits — items that many non-celebrities are still struggling to access right now. Cardi also called out celebs who might be using their public reach to downplay the virus rather than dispense solid information on the precautions folks should be taking so they don't get sick or spread the disease even if they're not showing symptoms. The four-minute video is not only compelling, it's a must-watch.

The moral of the story? Listen to Cardi B. And maybe, in addition to doing your part to help during this pandemic, stream the "Coronavirus" remix so the profits from the song can help those in need.
