Cardi B Responded to Trolls Who Think She's Depreciating the Value of Birkin Bags

“Why when a Black girl, why when a Hispanic girl have a bag y'all have to question it?”

Do not come for Cardi B or her (literal) bags.

The outspoken rapper happened upon a problematic tweet alleging that she and others have caused Hermès Birkin bags to “literally” lose “their value.” The tweet in question went on to say that “these bags are supposed to be exclusive and you’re supposed to be big in the fashion world and have relationships with these people to get one,” the implication appearing to be that Cardi’s purses are fake?

Well, Cardi takes her closet of Birkins seriously, and she was quick to issue a response to the hater via Instagram.

“First things first: I definitely could get a bag — actually, I got four bags today from the Hermès store,” the “WAP” rapper said on video. “I don't wanna brag, but it's, like, don't even try it.”

“Second of all: Why is it that y'all asking female rappers if they can get a bag from the Hermès store?” Cardi continued. “Y'all don't do this to these white celebrities. Why is it that y'all gotta be asking us? What the fuck? It just makes you wanna brag, like, ‘Bitch, do you know who the fuck you’re talking to?' I'm not even 'gonna take it there.”

Addressing the argument that Cardi and her contemporaries “depreciate” the value of the exclusive handbags, the artist said, "Actually, we add value. When we mention brands in hip-hop, they shit go up,” using “Bodak Yellow”’s “These is red bottoms / These is bloody shoes” Christian Louboutin reference as an example. "Sales went up 1,000+ %,” Cardi alleged. While that may be a slight exaggeration, reports from 2017 indicate that the designer saw a 217% search boost following the track’s release. “Hip hip — we start trends.”

“Why when a Black girl, why when a Hispanic girl have a bag y'all have to question it?” Cardi asked. “There’s a lot of boss ass bitches out here.”

Most importantly, Cardi made it clear that owning an expensive purse should not be your goal in life.

“If you're a regular girl, you don't gotta break your neck to have a Birkin,” she added. “A Birkin don't make you.”

“Don't ever feel like you gotta compare yourself,” she continued. “Don't ever feel like you gotta go to Canal Street to get a fake [bag] to keep up. Don't compare yourself to nobody on the internet."

Amen to that.
