Cardi B Defends Including Kylie Jenner in ‘WAP’ After Backlash From Fans

Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion put out a “break the Internet” kind of music video last week for their collab, “WAP.” Obviously, when you go that hard, there's going to be some push back, but it looks like Cardi did want to address one complaint.

Fans were totally here for most of “WAP”—the splits! The fashion!! Normani!!!!—but a large faction was taken out by one cameo: Kylie Jenner. While “WAP” featured a bunch of exciting women in music, including Normani, Rosalía, Rubi Rose, Sukihana, and Mulatto, some felt Jenner's bout strutting down the hall felt…out of place, to say the least.

On August 9, it seems one of these tweets got Cardi B's attention. After seeing the video, Twitter user Danielle Young pointed out a discrepancy between Normani's showstopping moves during her cameo and Jenner's appearance. "Normani did ALL this and Kylie walked down the hall and opened a door," @RhapsoDani wrote. "If that's not a perfect visual indication of Black women having to do the most and white women do the bare minimum to get somewhere, I don't know what is."

The rapper reportedly responded in Jenner's defense with a series of now-deleted tweets, according to Elle, as well as screengrabs by Popcrave. “Normani is one of the best female artist that dances,” she allegedly fired back. "Like she dances her fuckin ass off! Why would she open a door? Please tell me how that would make sense? The best part of the song is the beat & hook it what makes you want to shake your ass."

"Not everything is about race. There's issues out here in the world that it is about race that I preach all the time about. This is not about fuckin race," Cardi reportedly wrote in two more tweets. "Why did I put Kylie on my music video? She treated my sister and daughter so lovely at her kid bday party. Travis and [Offset] are real close and Kris Jenner have giving me advice on certain things I ask for and her husband real cool with mine."

But wait: There's one tweet that is still up on Cardi B's twitter page that explains exactly how she feels about the subject. In response to a fan who wrote, “Normani danced, that's her talent! Kylie strutted like a model, that's her talent! People just weird,” the rapper simply replied, “Exactly.”

Guess that's that on that for now. I'll just be over here working on my splits
